“We don’t need white people leading the Democratic Party”
A former spokesperson for Senator Bernie Sanders's campaign said on CNN that the Democratic Party needs "diversity" at the top levels of the Democratic National Committee and added that "we don't need white people leading the Democratic Party right now."
Symone Sanders also noted Dean’s criticism of Bernie Sanders and considered it a mark against his bid to lead the democratic party.
Howard Dean is also on record maligning young people and millennials — telling those Bernie folks they just need to get in line — and maligning Bernie Sanders. And that is not what we need.
In my opinion, we don’t need white people leading the Democratic party right now. The Democratic party is diverse, and it should be reflected as so in our leadership and throughout the staff, at the highest levels.
Last Monday, the CNN contributor made headlines during a discussion about a Chicago man who was beaten by several men following a traffic dispute. One of the attackers allegedly said, “It’s one of them white boy Trump guys.”
During a discussion about the incident, CNN panelist Carl Higbie asked Sanders, “What do you say to the people who dragged a poor white guy out of a car and beat him?”
Sanders responded: “Oh my goodness, poor white people! Please!”
Just what the Democratic party needs to get back on top – more arrogant dismissiveness directed at the white working class. It's as though the election of Donald Trump never happened. At the very least, many Democrats have apparently not learned a thing from that contest.
This is a party in total denial of both its blatant contradictions and reasons for the historic drubbing it received at the polls. The contradiction of claiming to be a party of "diversity" while trying to exclude the majority is lost on people like Sanders, who wants to double down on the policies that led to an unprecedented defeat and repuditation.
We can only hope Democrats like Sanders remain in power for a long, long time.
