Look who also wanted to protect the US flag!
It seems that the sight of Americans gleefully burning and otherwise destroying the American flag has a long history of upsetting most Americans of both parties. So eleven years before president-elect Donald Trump (R) suggested imprisonment or revocation of citizenship for flag-burners, several senators introduced the Flag Protection Act of 2005, which would have outlawed desecrating the flag. Those who violated the law would have been subjected to jail time and a heavy fine. Several Democratic senators agreed to co-sponsor Senate Bill 1911: Sen.
