July 23, 2008 No hearings on a massive bailout?According to Rep. Culberson's Twitter, the House will be voting on the trillion $ bailout of Freddie and Fannie without any hearings -- and the bill is super porked up. Note these words from Sen Tom Coburn R-OK:
Disgusting. We are getting a taste of what an Obama Presidency and Democratic Party controlled Congress will be like. Talk about American held hostage....we will not only be hostage, but find ourselves standing before our ATM with men wearing power ties standing unnaturally close. Question: why on earth would Bush sign this bill? |

The majority of Republicans will vote for this bill and George Bush will sign it. That illustrates both the opportunities the party has to regain its lost brand and why the party won't do it.
Chuck Schumer lets the banks write the bank bailout bill and the Republicans don't say a word.
Freddie Mae and Freddie Mac are looted by its management and memeber of Congress. It was and is the Democratic party's playgound and the Republicans remain silent.
Barney Franks bailout bill contains provisions that will provide billions of dollars to banks that made bad loans and bail out homeowners who gambled with home equity. The majority of the population opposes this bailout and the Republicans remain silent.
Imagine for a moment that John McCain opposed these measures. Imagine if Republicans made the argument for real change and real honesty in government.
They won't take that action. Why? Because they are in on the take as well. It's all so depressing. It doesn't have to be that way.

It is happening more and more and articles like this are changing my mind on term limits for Congress and Senate. I don't even believe in term limits for the president but I beginning to for everyone. I don't know how else things will really change.

Hey, it is only our money. They don't care. Like always, these incompetent boobs screw up and we have to pay.

What if McCain and Obama BOTH lost the Presidential bid AND their Senate seats? Would that not be a great start to rebuilding our once great nation?
This Fall - EVERY INCUMBANT MUST BE FIRED!

Before you throw the baby out with the bathwater in this next election, please remember that Republicans are talking about this. Rep. Culberson (R-TX) is sending twitters from the floor of the House informing us of the Stalinist tactics of the Pelosi controlled Congress. The MSM is not covering the fact that debate has become nonexistent in the 110th Congress.
For more information, please see my article: Real Time News and Its Enemies http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/07/real_time_news_and_its_enemies.html) The problem is that the Congressional Republicans who are speaking out are not being covered by the MSM. Non-coverage is just another method of manipulating the news. It is effective because it disheartens the media's political enemies.

seems i have found some friends ;)
maybe there really should be an option on the ballot "none of the above".

Ms. Coppock, whether Republicans speak out or not is not the problem. Nor is it a matter of lack of coverage by the MSM. Unfortunately, our Congress has mutated from a deliberative body to a politburo-lite. Back in the mid-thirties, the Supreme Court upheld the power of Congress to lay taxes for Social Security citing the 'General Welfare' clause. This cut the leash and gave Congress the power to go outside their enumerated powers of Article I as pretty much anything is justified under the guise of 'General Welfare'.
I am sure that if some of the legal thinkers of the day, who supported that expansion of power, were to come back from the dead they would be appalled to see today's Congress banning the light bulb and fixing the amount of water in a toilet. But such are the ways of unintended consequences.
But that's what happens when we lose sight of what our government is doing or we whole-heartedly concur because it offers us a few baubles in exchange for a chunk of our constitutional protections. The Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae fiasco arose out of our desire to have someone else help pay or assume the risks for our housing purchases. We gave the monster life and now we are trying to tame it? A bit late, I'm afraid.

I am for throw the bums out, everyone of them let's start a web site, incumbents fired no matter what, also thow out all the lobbists too, and all staff of each senator and congressman this would send a powerful message that we the people are in charge, also after we do this let's make sure we would bring charges to all members who have used their office to enable themselves

I don't understand why anyone who pays their bills and their taxes could go along with using our tax dollars to bail out those that don't know what responsibility is. Not to mention that I hear there is a lot of pork attached. Term limits are certainly needed but I can't understand why the people keep voting them back in. Somehow I keep think I'm missing something.

I have said it before numerous times on this forum and others, we already posess the ability to limit terms by taking action and not voting for any incumbants, regardless of what they have done/not done. Stop voting for a "ticket" and remove the incumbant from their position of power, regardless of party affiliation. This is the power we have but have not been exercising it. Too often we rationalize and say well this senator/representative brought this or that back home and they deserve to have another chance. "Pork" is bad, no matter who benefits from it because it sends the message to our congress that if they can bring home the bacon they get a free pass next election. We as citizens need to recognize that our current 2-party system has effectively divided and conquered us. We need less party affiliation and more diverse individuals. I propose that we limit money/time spent on campaigning and maybe even develop a system where any individual who runs gets equal funds/airtime/news coverage and eliminate the "buying" of elections by the parties. The current system has effectively eliminated anyone who is not "connected" from running a campaign, and reverted it back to those who are financially/politically connected having a distinct advantage over the common citizen. This is not what our forefathers wanted, it is exactly what they opposed. I'll quit rambling now.
