this is what Bill Clinton did to our military: took away all the money and defense spending. this was a big reason why 9/11/01 came to happen. our military was not properly equipped to handle our defense. unfortunately liberals believe we should not be armed. yes the #1 nation in the world should be armed and certainly we should be feared. we should have the largest and most feared military in the world. we should have the most up to date equipment on hand. why would you not want to have the best military to protect us, our children and our grandchildren?

I used to cary with me an article from the New Yorker written in February, 2003, right after Bush's SOTU where he outlined 23 reasons for going in. WMD's were number 19 on the list.

In the article, the editors of the New Yorker analyzed each and everyone of the points GW made. But, people forget these. Instead, all they focus on is "War for Oil!!!" Bush Lied - WMD's!!!

Obama's stances on military action call to attention the split that seems to exist here in the United States. There are two kinds of people I've come across. Those who understand the capability of truely evil men, and those who are nieve about evil thinking it only exists in fairy tales and television.

In order to understand the basis behind many of the military decisions that have been made since 2001, or even as far back as the first world war, you have to accept the premise that there are people who have no respect for life what so ever. These people will do anything and everything to further a cause. That cause might be fame, money, power or a variation of those three.

You also have to accept the premise that these same people realize the only thing in their way are people who hold life as the most valuable thing of all and will do everything to protect those they love and care about.

Those of us who value life realize that force, violence, and death are not methods we wish to employ. We use dialog, debate, and expression as means of working out our differences. The problem is that there are those people in the world that believe everyone shares the same desire to avoid conflict. This simply isn't so.

Those who don't value life only understand one thing. Death. They see talking, debate and dialog as weakness. The only thing these people respect is force and lots of it. With a culture that uses people as bombs, children as bullet shields, and send their women and children to die by blowing themselves up can only be spawned by a culture of death and destruction.

We face an irrational enemy that will harm himself to achieve his end goal of killing those who don't follow him. How do you defend yourself against someone who isn't afraid to die?

Our military is necessary to protect the people of this country against those who would do us harm. War is not black and white, but the basis of it is to protect the people and interests of the country.

War isn't right. It's ugly, terrible, and destructive. War is, however, necessary for our society and way of life to survive.

Nevertheless, his newest post is welcome because of the topic it talks about. The military is the #1 duty of any government. It is not the US government's obligation to maintain an SSA, a Medicare program, or a Medicaid program, but it is its duty to maintain a military. Not only would Obama make America defenseless, he would also demonstrate to America's European allies - most of whom have endorsed the proposed missile shield - that the interests of America's allies can be discarded whenever the US government so decrees. Except Britain and France, no European state has a nuclear deterrent, therefore most of Europe is endangered by Iranian, Pakistani and Korean nukes. Obama would strip Europe of its only universal anti-missile shield. This would cause NATO to be dissolved. (Whether Europe should be defended by the US, or only by Europeans, is a topic for a separate post.) There is no one other than America who can defend the West.

We manufacture so many weapons that we could never possibly use that we have to unload our inventory by selling them below cost to 3rd world waring countries or dictators who hate america and israel. The vast majority of weapons currently being used to kill our soldiers were MADE IN AMERICA.

Perhaps a little reality is in order here.

The weapons that are killing our boys in Afghanistan and Iraq were made in Russia, China, Czech Repubica and Iran. AK-47's and other old Soviet bloc guns are standard equipment for Taliban and Iraq terrorists.

It is true we are the largest exporter of military equipment - by value exported. That's because we sell a lot of high tech planes - all to our friends. We don't sell weapons systems that could ever be used against us or against a friend.

1. For the last time - as proven in about 1/2 dozen Congressional investigations and the 9/11 Commission - we did not arm Bin Laden. He, in fact, refused our help and financed his own corps of fighters. We armed the Mujahadin - most of whom became the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan who were our allies in the war against the Taliban. And we armed them with SOVIET weapons - our weapons were no good to them because we couldn't resupply them. We gave them a limited number of Stinger missiles - hardly a drop in the bucket considering what other assistance - food, medicine, intelligence - we gave them. We gave them no small arms or artillery or mortars that were manufactured in the US.

China has its own arms industry. What little dual use technology we've sold them under license was probably done so in return for campaign contributions from the Chinese military to the Clinton admin.

The Saudi arms deal - $20 bil over 10 years - is critical to bolstering that country;'s defenses against Iran. It is part of a series of arms deals with other gulf states called the Gulf Security Dialogue that is supplying naval technology to help protect the shipping lanes, as well as improvements in targeting capabilities for munitions that are going with the 30 advanced fighters we are selling them. No one argues that this isn't a good thing for the entire western world in that the Saudis have the primary defense responsibility for the Gulf. The Israelis are nervous but we've been making these deals for 30 years and its never come back to hurt Israel. - We helped finance Maktab al Khidamar. Bin Laden was one of three people who ran MAK. In 1989, he took over control of MAK.

You were right on China. Still we are arming Taiwan which brings us to the final point. Perhaps instead of having a foreign policy that requires us to waste billions and billions of U.S. tax dollars to fund and arm unsavory characters to keep the world "safe" maybe we should take a step back look at the foreign policy and ask ourselves is this what America is really about? When we get our foreign policy together we can stop selling weapons all over the globe and focus on this country and what financing we need to do to keep THIS country safe.

and just as a side note. I just want mention the fact that this U.S. involvement in the middle east can bring nothing good for U.S.. We are talking about a region who has been fighting amongst each other since biblical times. These people have been waring with one another before the U.S. was a nation and will continue long after this nation has fallen. We are never going to fix the problems in that region and it isnt our job to. The only thing we will do by getting involved in this mess is entangle ourselves in this timeless battle and ensure that every generation of children in the U.S. will now have to fight in some conflict concerning the middle east. Again, we need to step back and ask ourselves what kind of America do we want to leave for our children.

It is with good fortune that this man will be our next commander in chief.

For everyone who thinks the policies of diplomacy and reduction of nuclear missiles that are one button push away from destroying the world are dangerous policies, I want you to look up this little thing called the CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS.

It took a level-headed leader committed to diplomacy to save America and it is becoming ever so clear that is what we need again.
