David French’s video supporting Trump will create problems if he runs
I take no glee in passing along the video excerpt below tweeted out by Trump supporter Alison Arkin. It shows Bill Kristol’s chosen spoiler candidate David French averring on a Skype interview that he will vote for Donald Trump should he be the GOP nominee.
Of course, anyone is entitled to change his or her mind. And people in the opinion journalism business tend to have a lot of opinions. That’s what they (ahem, we) sell. And if you run out of issues on which to have an opinion, well, changing one makes for an extra opportunity for writing on a given issue.
And that’s just one of a number of reasons for pundits to avoid running for office. Everyone has got opinions, but not everyone has leadership or executive ability.
So here is the video:

And here is a response by fellow National Review #NeverTrump-er Charles Cooke:
I don’t understand why the David French video has caused such consternation given he publicly changed his mind. pic.twitter.com/RVVDYslUX4

I truly admire David French for his courage in volunteering to serve in Iraq, for his legal work, and for his punditry. This is why I hope he refuses the lure of big money supposedly backing a candidacy that has every prospect of electing Hillary Clinton.
His most appropriate response to Bill Kristol telling him to run for president would be “You first!”
