Israel and India collaborate to develop surface-to-air missile

The Barak-8, a new long-range surface-to-air missile has been developed by a collaboration between India and Israel. (Barak is the Hebrew word for lightening, but one can still appreciate the irony of the name.)

India TV News reports that recent tests of the missile conducted in the Mediterranean Sea have been successful, with more planned off India’s newest Navy destroyer. Once those tests are complete, the first 32 missiles will be installed on that destroyer. The times of India reports that in Israel “the missile system will be deployed to secure offshore gas fields. It will also help defend Israeli navy ships from anti-ship missiles.”

In these perilous times, the partnership between India and Israel is growing. It was not always this way. But times are changing. And on this front, for the better. (See here, here, here, here, and here)
