Please Support (but don't vote) For Marco Rubio For President
I would like to take this opportunity to endorse Senator Marco Rubio for President. He's a bright new leader for the GOP, looks like a young suavecito Ricardo Montalban, speaks English without an accent or rolling his r's, and most of all, running him for president may be our only chance to get him out of the U.S. Senate.
Please bear with me. Rubio came out of nowhere in 2009 to challenge then Governor Charlie Crist in the Republican primary for the 2010 Senate race from Florida. Nobody thought Marco could win because Crist was a very popular governor. However, Crist started doing some questionable lefty things, such as embracing President Obama a little too closely. His image was also hurt by widely reported stories of his frequenting a seedy gay bar in Tampa called the "Green Iguana" and living a bit of a wild gay lifestyle. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
Anyway, Rubio, a "tea party darling", as the lib media would mockingly say, won the nomination and was elected to the Senate. Once elected, on issues of national security, cutting the budget, controlling government spending, and opposing Obama's nominees, he was consistently a strong and silent voice in opposition. Though he was silent on most of these topics, you knew, since he was a tea party conservative, that he strongly opposed what Obama was doing. Even when he failed to take the lead against expanding the debt limit, or opposing Obama's judges, or opposing the Chromnibus spending bill, we all knew in his heart he was strongly opposed to them. When Ted Cruz spoke out on these issues, you just knew Rubio was always silently behind him, off-camera, silently mouthing the same words.
But one place Rubio did manage to finally locate his vocal chords was in the debate about border security. Rubio cosponsored a bill to legalize all the illegal aliens here, to start that process before the borders were secure. He's been very outspoken on the issue. This is what he's best known for, after four years in the Senate.
Now he's facing a decision whether to run for the Presidency in 2016, or run for re-election to the Senate, also in 2016.
I would encourage all of you to call his office and offer gestures of support. If he runs for president, he won't be able to run for reelection (unless he pulls out of the presidential race very early). In that way we can get rid of him. Florida may not be the most conservative state, but neither is it the most liberal. I think we can do better than either a pro-amnesty senator or a senator who likes green iguanas.
If he runs, he's sure not to gain much traction, because Jeb Bush already has the establishment, pro-amnesty crowd in his pocket and Rubio has nothing else to offer. So call his office and tell him to run. You don't have to vote for him. I sure won't.
Then while you're at it, call Rand Paul's office and encourage him to run too. He's also up for reelection in 2016 and needs to make a choice. On the growth in federal spending and liberal judicial nominees he's been no less a tireless fighter against the Obama administration than Rubio. Additionally, he's been a strong voice for decriminalizing drugs, releasing criminals from jail, and speaking passionately about hemp. His best friend Mitch McConnell would miss him if he ran for president and gave up his senate seat, but we all must soldier on.
Please at least show your support for Rubio today. This may be our last chance to get rid of him.
