After six years of his presidency, Barack Obama has become an anathema, a “historic first” president too radioactive to name stuff after, even in Democrat-dominated places like Hawaii and Chicago. First, Chicago dropped plans to name a school after him, and now his native Hawaii has dropped a plan to name a beach – one where he body surfed as a child – after him. AP reports:

Two Honolulu city councilmen have dropped plans to rename a popular beach for President Barack Obama.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Councilman Stanley Chang and Council Chairman Ernie Martin decided to withdraw the proposal after hearing from the public.

The councilmen last week introduced a resolution to change the name of Sandy Beach Park to President Barack Obama Sandy Beach Park.

It must have seemed like a good idea at the time. But the councilmen discovered that their constituents are no longer enthusiasts.
