United Nations Scolds Vatican Over Child Sex Abuse

"The main finding of The Committee was that The Holy See adopted policies and practices which have lead to the continuation of the abuse by and impunity of the perpetrators."

In an unprecedented and scathing report by the United nations' Committee on the Rights of the Child, church officials are accused of imposing a so-called code of silence to cover up sexual crimes against children. The UN report also severely criticized the Holy See for its attitudes toward homosexuality, contraception and abortion and said it should change its own canon law to ensure children's rights and their access to health care are guaranteed.
