The New York Daily News reports there are even more troubles lurking in Rangel's financial records:

Rangel said he expects to file amended tax and House disclosure reports going back several years. A source said figures in the two sets of documents over the past seven years don't always match.

One example is the failure of Rangel to report ownership of a Florida condo, and assessing the value of his Caribbean rental home at $250,000 one year and $40,000 another -- and not reporting it at all in a third tax year.

Rangel has been criticized for maintaining four rent-stabilized Harlem apartments he used as his residences and campaign offices, and his failure to report $75,000 in rental income on a Dominican Republic beach getaway over the past two decades.

I especially loved this tap dance about whose responsible for these misreported transactions.

The congressman took "ultimate responsibility" yesterday for the mess of his personal finances. He also blamed his staff, to whom he said he "delegated" the job of preparing his financial reports. Republicans have called on Rangel to resign, but he insists he won't step down.

While Obama is still in the lead, he has dropped below 50% in New York. While some of this is undoubtedly due to Sarah Palin, another part of it may be the stream of stories about the tax and ethics problems of Charles Rangel.

House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) appears to have made a $70,000 profit from the 2006 sale of a Florida condominium he had purchased two years earlier, but he never reported the profits on his Congressional financial disclosure forms as House rules require.

Reportedly he's meeting with "the most ethical Congress" pledger Pelosi tonight.
