A giant has left us

Thomas Lifson
William F. Buckley has passed away. Part of his legacy, National Review Online, reports  the sad news. Kathryn Jean Lopez writes:

He died while at work; if he had been given a choice on how to depart this world, I suspect that would have been exactly it. At home, still devoted to the war of ideas.

Mr. Buckley embodied the notion of living life to its fullest. I owe my standing as a conservative to him, for it was reading National Review that revealed to me that I was a conservative, but didn't know it at the time. I suspect that there are many conservatives who can tell the same story.

I never met the man, so I am in no position to say much more than "Thank-you" and "God bless your soul" about him. But I feel a special emptiness. He will be sorely missed.
