David Brock surrenders to Fox News and plans pathetic ploy to keep the billionaires funding his empire

One of the great villains of American politics must be getting desperate.  He has become used to getting billionaires of the Sorosphere to fund his tax-deductible operations like Media Matters, which spew out hatred for conservatives and Republicans, but which somehow Lois Lerner never deemed questionable as nonpartisan charities serving the public interest.  Brock’s mission for Media Matters has been to discredit Fox News in recent years.  That didn’t work out so well, what with Fox dominating ratings and now possibly supplying some of its familiar talking heads to the Trump administration.  And, despite relentless attacks on Trump by the rest of the media, he won.

Brock’s funders have gotten less than nothing for their money.  And Brock has an expensive lifestyle to maintain.

So what does he do?  Why, of course, he claims that he is going to emulate a key perceived element of Trump’s success: Breitbart.com.  Alex Griswold reports in Mediaite:

Clinton ally and liberal Super PAC operator David Brock told reporters Tuesday that he plans to create a new outlet designed to serve as a counterpoint to alt-right website Breitbart.

Brock purchased liberal website BlueNationReview in 2015, rebranding it in 2016 as “ShareBlue.” ShareBlue, he said Tuesday, would be the “Breitbart of the left…” so long as the financial contributions kept pouring.

He’s going to do for web journalism what Air America did for talk radio.  And what will he do differently from the program at HuffPo, Salon, Kos, and many other lefty (alt left, even) websites that already occupy that niche?  Is Brock’s record of integrity supposed to be a selling point?  Why is this going to be a success?  Will it simply amp up the level of viciousness already on display by the left?

Note that there is no thought to becoming self-supporting.  The left always presumes to fund its operations from above, because its grassroots are not trusted or believed capable of organically growing the movement.  And because the people donating the money are after power, and by controlling the purse strings, they don’t risk dissent from below, once people down in the trenches notice that things don’t seem to be working out so well (as always happens to its putative beneficiaries when the left gets it way).

Brock is also surrendering in his futile jihad against Fox News:

Brock also confirmed earlier reports that he plan to shift the focus of Media Matters for America away from Fox News and more towards attacking the alt-right and fake news. “A lot of garbage came spewing out of Facebook, and these companies need to adopt new standards and clean their own house,” he told reporters. “We’ll be involved in a campaign to push them to do that.”

I guess Brock thinks his billionaires are reading about Facebook and fake news, so he thinks the new, new thing will open their bank accounts to him.

So the left that has been lecturing us about the evils of “money in politics” is using money as the main implement for its next step in countering the Trump wave that has swept the federal and state levels.  Even as Trump proved that money was not the decisive factor in political victory by running a lean campaign.

Stand by for over-the-top hatred from the Brockosphere that will backfire on the left.
