The Iowa Senate race and Israel
Poll numbers for the Iowa Senate race have tightened to a razor slim margin. Up until early June, Democratic candidate Congressman Bruce Braley was leading in the polls by 5 or 6 points. Then seemingly overnight Joni Ernst’s polls numbers rose and she tightened the margin. Since then, Ernst and Braley have jockeyed for the lead, often separated by less than one percentage point.
Last week there was news coverage on several conservative blogs that in 2010 Braley was one of several liberal Congressmen who signed a letter urging Obama to force Israel to break the Gaza blockade. Israel depends on this legal blockade for her safety and security. Braley also joined the chorus of ludicrous voices that frame Israel as an apartheid state. Breitbart reports:
Braley was endorsed in the Senate race by J-Street, a controversial liberal Jewish group that, for example, defended Secretary of State John Kerry when he was revealed to have warned Israel was on the verge of becoming an “apartheid state.”
In a page noting its endorsement on its website, J-Street describes Braley as a “rising star in progressive politics.”
The 2010 letter was signed by some of the most liberal members of the House, including Reps. Jim McDermott (D-WA), Raul Grijalva (D-NM), James McGovern (D-MA), Barbara Lee (D-CA) and George Miller (D-CA)….
The most recent Iowa Senate poll was on Saturday and Ernst only had a narrow 1% lead of Braley.
Please help make sure we elect Joni Ernst. For so many reasons, none-the-least of which is that we don’t need any more anti-Israel officials in Washington.
