State Department unwittingly creates ISIS recruitment video

The State Department has created a graphic video as part of its social media campaign to discourage Americans from joining ISIS. The video is titled: “ThinkAgain TurnAway.” Why it consists of words strung together like that, I have no idea. Perhaps the video was produced by the Kwik Karwash Korp.

In any case, the video has a content warning so viewers have to sign in to confirm their age. And it’s on the State Department YouTube channel, which I’m sure is a really popular go-to site for young sociopaths thinking about becoming jihadists.

Already the entire affair smacks of amateurish stupidity. Still, one could hold out hope that the video itself would somehow be great. Well, even just good. All right, how about good enough?

OK. You’re right. It’s stupid.

Worse than stupid.

The State Department has essentially created an ISIS recruitment piece as the video shows barbaric acts committed by ISIS with captions in big bold letters. The video suggests that would-be ISIS fighters from the United States will only need a one-way plane ticket because they will likely die while fighting.

If I can just make a few ridiculously obvious points:

  • The opening message actually encourages people to join. It reads: “Run, Do not walk to ISIS Land.” I thought I misread it, so checked again. But indeed, that is what it says. So the very first message the video sends is to hurry up and join ISIS. Hmm.
  • The video then shows a series of savage acts committed by ISIS. Any nut job thinking about signing up to join is obviously someone not dissuaded by violence. Quite the opposite. Such individuals are drawn to it. This video documents the very violence these creeps are attracted to.
  • Part of the appeal of ISIS among the certifiably psychopathic is that ISIS is winning. They have power and control. No one is stopping them. They decide if someone lives or is someone dies. This video shows all of that which would likely be appealing to someone seeking glory in battle. (That the fight is the wrong fight will be lost on these padded cell types.)
  • After showing ISIS maiming, torturing, murdering, and plundering, the end of the video suggests that as a member of ISIS, you too will die. But that is not the case the video makes. It shows ISIS winning. Other people die; not members of ISIS. But even if the video showed members of ISIS dying, those who created the video are missing a central point: martyrdom is a desired end for jihadists. So the video announcement that “travel is inexpensive because you won’t need a return ticket” will actually be a selling point for loons.

How about a video that shows ISIS recruits being repeatedly raped as part of their initiation into the fold of barbarians? How about a video that explains how the FBI, the DOJ, the CIA, and every single relevant branch of our government are actively hunting down people they have identified as potential recruits and making their lives miserable? How about a video that shows Imams in mosques across America being forcibly removed from the pulpit for preaching violence against America? Better yet, how about a video that we see on the nightly news that shows the United States carpet-bombing ISIS?

But of course we get none of that. Instead, we have a State Department video that will serve as a recruitment video for ISIS.

Stupid? Or intentional?

No matter. Either way, ISIS must be thrilled.
