Warning: This is not a parody (I wish it were). Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg is being praised this week because of a crusade she’s launching called the “Ban Bossy” campaign. Don’t laugh, this is for reals, and she is joined in this idiocy by former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Girl Scouts USA CEO Anna Maria Sanchez. This new ‘movement’ claims that girls are discouraged from leadership positions because when they assert themselves they are labeled as ‘bossy,’ so they shy away from leading roles in order to be liked. So of course in the universe of the wise old liberal, the answer is to ban the use of the word entirely. Sandberg’s whole premise assumes that most women want to be leaders, and only if the dreaded name calling stopped, than we would have a whole slew female leaders coming out the wazoo.
