Living Outside The Tiny Black Box.
Last year, Mary and I flew up from Florida to Maryland to attend my grandmother's one hundredth birthday party. During the party, a cousin's twenty-something year old son cornered me. He coveted my advice to market a new car deodorizer he invented. Folks, I can not tell you how excited I was for him and how eager I was to mentor the young black enthusiastic entrepreneur. I thought, "Praise God, he got it!" No where in our conversation did I detect the slightest symptom of ghetto "why-try-because-whitey-is-going-to-stop-you" rhetoric in this bright black kid. Miraculously, this black kid was not infected with the eternal-victim mindset spread by casual contact via the NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus and Democratic Party. This black kid's attitude said he realized he was blessed to be born in America, the greatest land of opportunity on the planet. Hopeful and excited, he was going for his dreams. I say, "Hallelujah!"
