Surprise! Obama releases 'Long Form' birth certificate

Rick Moran
No doubt stung by Donald Trumps recent remarks about his origins, President Obama released his "Long Form" birth certificate this morning.

The "Certificate of Live Birth" would seem to close the case on one element of the birth controversy - where the president was born. Even die hard believers in the president's Kenyan roots will have to take a long look at that theory.

Of course, the other controversy about the president's natural born citizenship is still alive and will continue.

CNN:

The White House released President Obama's original birth certificate Wednesday. The surprise release follows recent and sustained remarks by businessman Donald Trump, among others, that raised doubts as to whether the president was born in the United States.

"This whole birther debate has been really bad for the Republican Party," White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said.  But the discussion is "crowding out the debate" on more important issues and is a distraction, he added.

The so-called "birther" debate is "good politics" but "bad for the country," said Pfeiffer.

White House spokesman Jay Carney is expected to speak more about the birth certificate Wednesday morning.

This should finish Donald Trump as a candidate - but it won't. More likely a roadblock is the revelation that Trump has favored supporting Democrats more than Republicans over the years. At any rate, his claim that the birth certificate was "missing" makes him look like a fool.

Now can we get back to the business of the nation?
