Ah autumn! New shows opening across the country, new programs on television and the opening of the money wasting tragicomedy known as the UN.
As has been the custom in the past several years, Iran's murderous, racist, war mad but always devious president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will set the tone in the opening session of the General Assembly reports Iran's Press-TV.
With a straight face, belying the failure of past discussions, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
called for further cooperation on the part of the Islamic Republic to help resolve the standoff with the West over the country's nuclear program."On numerous occasions I have been urging and use this opportunity to urge again Iran to extend its cooperation [with the International Atomic Energy Agency] and to resolve all outstanding issues," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
"I will have an opportunity to meet with the officials from the Iranian leadership, possibly with the President of Iran during the General Assembly," he added.
Iran retorts it has "legitimate rights" to a civilian nuclear program, strongly denying it is working on nuclear weapons.
The Islamic Republic has also repeatedly called for a global nuclear disarmament, a call ignored by the very nuclear powers that accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons.
Iran has also boasted numerous times its desire--and ability--to "wipe Israel off the map" and expressed its contempt for the US.
The new school year begins in autumn. In previous years Columbia University in New York proudly hosted Ahmadinejad under the banner of academic openness and inquiry, freedom of speech and diversity and other noble thoughts often ignored in practicality. Columbia also has some guidelines on hate speech and troublemaking, using them as guidelines to bar certain other speakers. Columbia--or some other university--and Ahmadinejad haven't yet announced if he will also grace their campus.
