Obama fans planning a pilgrimage to Jakarta's Menteng Park to see the statue of young Barry Soetoro, placed there by admirers of the 44th president, will have to change their plans. Hasyim Widhiarto of the Jakarta Post reports:
Bowing to public pressure, the Jakarta-based Friends of Obama Foundation, which installed the statue of US President Obama as a child, removed it from Menteng Park, Central Jakarta, on Sunday night after deciding to erect it again at state elementary school SDN 01 Menteng, where Obama was once the student, later this week.
So the statue will be moved from a public park to the school grounds of one of two schools young Barry allegedly attended.
Best of all, the tactics used to evict the statue from a public park: Facebook and the class action lawsuit. Eat your hearts out, ACLU:
The group opposing the placement of the Barack Obama statue in Menteng Park, Central Jakarta, may withdraw their class-action lawsuit as the statue was removed for relocation on Sunday night.
"I personally agree [with the removal], but I need to discuss first with other group members whether we really need to stop the trial process," said Heru Nugroho, a representative from the 50,000-member Facebook group, "Take down the Barack Obama statue from Menteng Park".
