Left wing bias in 'googling'

Jed Gladstein
So, everyone knows that Google, like most tech companies, is left leaning, right? Well, you all know that Microsoft is behind MSNBC, right? And you know that Al Gore sits on the Board of Apple Computer, right?

But here's something you might not know. I just googled "Carley Fiorina" and guess what came up at the top of the Google hit parade? You might think it was the "Carley Fiorina for Senator" website, right?

Not on your life. Here is what Google offers if you search for Carley Fiorina:

Support Barbara Boxer

action.barbaraboxer.com/page      Stand Up to Carly Fiorina: Join Barbara's 2010 campaign today! (emphasis in the original)

Here is what Google offered the second time I searched for Carley Fiorina:

Stand With Barbara Boxer

action.barbaraboxer.com/page      Respond to Carly's Announcement: Join Barbara's 2010 campaign today! (emphasis in the original)

This gives a whole new meaning to the idea of getting googled, doesn't it?  And, for those of you who don't follow tech stuff, you should know that Google's Technorati website routinely tweaks their search engine algorithms in order to meet various corporate search requirements, so this search result is no accident.

I suppose it's good to know that profiling is acceptable on the left - at least when it pushes a left-wing agenda. But wouldn't it be nice if the folks at Google would pull their heads out of the sand and come up for some fresh air?

Hey, Google! The rest of America is not amused by your palpable political bias.
