PETA wants to rename fish "Sea Kittens"

Rick Moran
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is not known for its smarts. They have been caught in several jurisdictions promising the owners of cats and dogs who can no longer keep their pets that the little darlings will be safe in their care only to euthanize them later. And their well known antics, attacking people who wear fur - even if the animals are grown on a farm - is legendary.

Therefore, it should surprise no one that the numskulls have begun a campaign to rename fish, preferring that we call them "Sea Kittens:"

A CAMPAIGN to rename fish as “sea kittens” in order to improve their image has been ridiculed by the Federal Opposition.

Outspoken animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is using the “sea kitten” name as part of its push to restrict fishing.

“Nobody would hurt a sea kitten!” the group says on its website.

Fish: The Kittens of the Sea

“People don’t seem to like fish.

“We’re going to start by retiring the old name for good.

Please Don't Eat the Sea Kittens!

“When your name can also be used as a verb that means driving a hook through your head, it’s time for a serious image makeover.”

The website features images of fish with cats’ whiskers and ears. (Hat Tip: Stop the ACLU )

As a cat lover, allow me to protest this monumental insult to kitties. Fish are stupid, slimy, ugly, creatures who I happen to think look good only when filleted, dipped in butter sauce and sprinkled with lemon juice.  Cats on the other hand are incredibly smart, soft and cuddly, gorgeous and, I am told, don't taste very good.

The logic of these idiots eludes me.

And why not call them "Sea Puppies?" Dogs may be smarter than fish - barely - but they can be slimy (ever try and pet a Lab after she's jumped in a mud pit to retrieve a ball?) and ugly (Pekinese? I rest my case) and, I am told, taste pretty good. Clearly, PETA has a bias against cats. They are probably jealous because kitties have more sense than they do.

John Stephenson has a link to the PETA website where you can make your own "Sea Kitten" here.
