Classless to the last
Obama's intent to remake American politics got a jolt of reality yesterday when thousands of his supporters booed and mocked George Bush as he stepped on to the platform:
The crowd packed on the west side of the Capitol grounds serenaded President Bush in mocking fashion when he took to the inaugural stage alongside Vice President Dick Cheney.
"Nah nah nah nah, hey hey, good-bye," a section of the crowd chanted.
The crowd packed immediately below the podium received Bush in stony silence when he took his seat on the stage surrounding the podium where Barack Obama was scheduled to take the oath office to become the 44th president of the United States.
The jeers are among the final public feedback Bush will receive as president.
First Lady Laura Bush and Lynne Cheney received light applause when they were announced to the crowd.
Allahpundit has a good response:
Doubtless many of the same turds heard chanting here spent the past four years assuring people that Bush would cancel the election and declare martial law to install himself as supreme leader. Instead he was a model of cooperation with the transition. And still, they couldn’t bear to receive him even with pointed silence.
How classless is this? Even Chris Matthews is embarrassed. But look on the bright side: It proves that not every word that escapes the Messiah’s lips is received as gospel truth by his disciples.
Here's the moment, captured forever on YouTube:
The louts were disrespecting Obama as much as Bush, of course. On such a solemn, civic occasion where a new president was promising a new era of bi-partisanship, the lefty loons couldn't grasp the fact that their despicable actions were giving a lie to what their hero was saying a short time later on that same platform.
GOP senators and House members who accompanied many of the dignitaries were booed lustily by the same crowd proving that Obama should perhaps criticize the opposition less and dress down those over whom he is supposed to have some control.
Fat chance of that happening. Especially since the new White House website trashes Bush over the government response to Katrina:
The new White House website unveiled by President Barack Obama’s team Tuesday includes a shot at former President Bush’s response to Hurricane Katrina.
Welcome to the new Age of Obama...
