September 26, 2008 'Rabbis for Obama' and AhmadinejadIranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for wiping Israel off the map, denies the Holocaust and proclaims his desire to bring about another one. He also recently delivered a speech at the United Nations-founded in the wake of the Holocaust-that was the most starkly anti-Semitic speech on the world stage since Adolph Hitler, blaming a small group of people for the problems in the world and calling for the world to defend itself against these people (this is beyond prejudice and was the same formulation-seeing Jews as a threat-Hitler used to justify the destruction of the Jewish people). From the podium of the United Nations: (Text provided by Haaretz)
As has been widely reported a group of religious Americans had dinner with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. Among those in attendance was Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb of Berkeley, California-who has been in the forefront of burnishing Iran's reputation in America. She has traveled to Iran on a mission of interfaith dialogue and understanding. She even wrote a poem: An Ode to Iran At the dinner at the Hyatt, Ahmadinejad, according to Haaretz: "...he also dwelled on the woes of the Palestinians and efforts by "selfish powers" to dominate the world and frustrate Iran's peaceful nuclear ambitions at the event billed as a discussion on religion's role in eliminating poverty, injustice and war" Rabbi Gottlieb even spoke at the dinner with Ahmadinejad. She had this to say: "Our world views are rather different. But unless we ... dialogue face to face, how will we create any kind of understanding?" Gottlieb told Reuters, adding that she chose to attend because "peace is better than war." Yes, peace is better than war. In the abstract. But not a false peace that empowers genocidal leaders and leads to unimaginable horrors. We have been down that road before-a road that leads under the sign at Auschwitz "Works Makes Free" Rationality is better than insanity. Reality is better than delusion. Wisdom is better than naiveté. Why bring up Rabbi Gottlieb? She is one of the 300 Rabbis For Obama. What a surprise. Rabbi Gottlieb had some other company in meeting with Ahmadinejad: Code Pink founder Jodie Evans, a bundler of financial contributions for Barack Obama who has promised to raise $50,000 for the Democrat. Evans called the meeting a "major step forward."
Forward to what? Armageddon? Something which Ahmadinajed said he desires in order to bring about the return of the 12th Iman? |
