Another inconvenient truth down the Obama Memory Hole

Thomas Lifson
The staggering implications of another embarrassing Obama statement would remain unexplored, with the public record obscured, were it not for a video clip of one of his speeches posted to the web and alert internet journalists. As first developed  by World Net Daily's Joseph Farah, the story is about what the candidate said in Colorado Springs on July 2nd:

We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

Published transcripts of the speech in the Wall Street Journal and Denver Post  did not include the remarks, which apparently were added to the prepared transcript. Another instance of the dangers of letting the candidate deviate from the teleprompter?

In the MSM, only the Chicago Tribune  publicized the remarks. But the size implications of a force that's "just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the United States Military went unremarked upon. This would truly be a mass organization, apparently a new kind of security force.

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air explores what else Obama could have meant. But if this remark ever requires response, I suspect he will admit to "poor phrasingand claim he meant "ample" funding. But that would require someone beyond the blogosphere to publicize it. This is a golden opportunity for talk show hosts.

Even if he claims it was poor phrasing, the sweeping nature of the phrase "just as powerful, just as strong" seems to offer some sort of window into the candidate's mind. There is a hint of regarding the military as the "other" against which to compare the new forces. Inherent in the words "just as" is an unmistakable sense of catching up and balancing out.

If these new civilian security forces ever march into an Obama rally carrying torches, whatever color their shirts, I am out of here.

Comments

Well I wouldn't bother getting too uptight about it. Bill Clinton said he is going to campaign for Obama, so you can pretty much kiss Obama's candidacy goodbye. Say hello to President McCain.

Every national savior requires his "protection squadron," doesn't he?

Or, funding parity could be achived by cutting the military budget???

What other political environment has anything resmbling a Civilian National Security Force? Obviously Homeland Security is not enough, nevermind, FBI, ATF, CIA ... on and on.

This is an increasingly frightening man.

Seems to me that Barry Hussein has been hanging out with the Farrakhan gooons a little too long!

Any chance his autobiography is another Mein Kampf?

As I mentioned to a friend today, I'm going to start printing off and having handy these types of articles as conversation pieces. And - no offense intended - I'm not talking about the AT pieces, but those in the MSM and documents produced by the Obama campaign.

With all of the scrubbing that takes place at the Obama website, it may be prudent to do this sooner rather than later. I know, there are always archive copies out there, but there's nothing like words on paper - something concrete - to show and tell about.

Cheers.

Thomas, right on!
But don't you mean the Obama Memory Black Hole?

chillingly similiar to the Nazi brown shirts.

Please keep beating the drum about this. It's the most frightening thing so far amidst all the promised horrors announced by this self-adulating candidate.

I think he'd better explain that comment fully...I'm NOT cool with anything that smacks of the 'Sturmabteilung'.

Who commands it? Who controls it? Who does it answer to? Where does it fit within the framework of the Constitution? Where does it's funding come from?

And that's the beginning of my questions.

And no, 'Hope and Change' are NOT satisfactory answers.

Mike S. -- Nazi Brown Shirts was the first thought I had, too!

Being a constitutional scholar and all, I'm sure he must have meant this, right?... right?

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The operative term here is national and that is the one that should be scaring the hell out of every American, left and right. And as powerful as our military? The liberals are already paranoid about GWB's supposed abuse of his executive law enforcement powers but they want to elect a guy who wants set up an internal national security force? Let's see, who in the past had those? Ummm, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Mao, Kim Il Sung, Castro, Saddam Hussein...

Who has them now? Hu Jintao, Vladimir Putin, Hugo Chavez, Achmadinejad, Assad, Kim Jong Il, Robert Mugabe, the Burmese generals and still Castro...

Nothing should be more frightening to Americans than a leftist ideologue with a national security force at his command. Therein lies the means of confiscatory disarmament of the public and the thought police who can monitor the citizenry for crimes against the state.

This guy is becoming scarier by the day and the media just blithely go along with it. Maybe they'll finally wake up when everything they publish has to be cleared by the national security force editor to make sure there is no anti-regime content in their copy.

I followed the Hot Air link in the article and wound up here; http://hotair.com/archives/2008/07/14/obama-immigration-enforcement-terror/

This link reveals that Obama said this;

When communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids, when nursing mothers are torn from their babies, when children come home from school to find their parents missing, when people are detained without access to legal counsel, when all that is happening, the system just isn't working, and we need to change it.

And Ed Morrissey points out this;

And if that's what Obama thinks of ICE, why has he done nothing about them during the three years he's been in the Senate?

Answer: His goal is to change the system. In fact, he said so. Keeping people angry at the system enables that goal. Working within the system (i.e., our republican form of government), such as introducing a bill to limit ICE authority, would defeat his goal. Debate over such a bill would expose him to criticism from most of the citizenry. Anger would then be focused on him, not the system. Good for us, bad for Obama.

Apparently, this is standard Marxist practice. He is working toward his goal. It is silly to ask him such questions as; "What will be the size of a civilian security force? How will it be funded? etc. He will only respond with more convoluted nonsense. Other than pretend like he never said this or that, that is all he can do, and Marxists are very good at this game. Force him to play a different game.

It makes more sense to just identify what he is (a Marxist), what his goals are (replace our republican form of government with Marxist centralized control), and analyze his tactics (alinsky, misdirection, generating anger at the system, activate the memory hole, etc.) in a Marxist context. Marxism is the only thing that brings consistency to his words and actions.

It is dumb to be a criminal. But, some criminals are smart enough to get away with crime. He is like one of those. Since it is so obvious what is going on here, if we vote for him, we are dumb enough to LET him get away with it.

Anyone still wondering why Obama want to make a speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate? Ish ein und beginner!

"The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them."-- Vladimir Ilich Lenin aka B.Hussein Obama

Behold, there come the army of of Nazi, and it will be staffed by public school brainwashed kids who currently are serving Pink Code, Sierra Club and such.

Obviously Obama is not talking about a group doing things outside the country, at least that is how I interpret his remarks. That leaves only security internal to the country. Why would we need 2 million paid Obamatons running around and securing what, acting like security guards standing on every corner? The only analog I can think of is the Cultural Revolution unleashed upon China by Mao. The Hitler youth movement was a pattern for Mao, however Mao took this movement by an order of magnetude.

If this is what he is talking about, at the first signs of recruitment for such a force would start a civil war.

I am NOT "outta here". I am here and aware. Lord Baamaaha will need preparation to change my opinion. His Sturmabteilung is only a small challenge to my abilities and tools. Bring it on.

imagine that. hell must be freezing over:

the liberals are condoning an armed civilian militia.

This is a very scary statement, maybe he wants to be president for life. A civilian security force that he created would be loyal to him and could be used to keep him in power.

Sounds like Louis Farrakan's paramilitary

What? He figures the simple device of political commissars won't be enough?

I'm surprised none of you recognize what the messiah is talking about........

I mean, the Wizard of Uhhs has just revealed a crucial part of his job creation program, a central component of the change he always refers to, and his way of ensuring our nations adoption of his new kind of politics.......

He's going to hire calypso Louis Farrakhan and the nation of Islam thugs.....they gonna get PAID!!!!!

Good lookin' out mah n*gga!

Chicago style.......

Do all you can to defeat comrade Obama in the fall!!!

What 'national security objectives' has he and his advisors set?
I don't this force is going to be established soon because tax money have to be used to fund them - and questions will definitely be asked.

The Left's hatred for the military has become tinged with fear as the armed forces have become more Christian, more conservative, and more "Republican" than the general population. The Clintons did their best to feminize and corrode military culture, but Obama apparently has bigger plans. Perhaps Barack wants his own parallel organization that can be run by people from his side of the culture. It would be a way of weakening the military by diverting funding to an organization dedicated to the Democratic Party (kind of like NPR, except with guns).

The Hungarian Candidate delivers again.
I believe this stuff comes out to de-sensitize his followers, who want to remain stuck on stupid.

"We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Yes, Mr. Obama, we already do. It's called the NRA.

And yet, the Constitution puts a civilian commander in chief in charge of the military. Is Obama unaware of this?

Mr. Lifson, I've no idea if you might be aware, but there are a fair sprinkling of liberals, as well as a few odd libertarians, who believes the veterans of our present wars will stage a coup before the dreams of liberals are realized. I expect Bambi's suggstion pallliates against this fear by presenting a counterweight in his own mind to such an eventuality.

"Bill Clinton said he is going to campaign for Obama, so you can pretty much kiss Obama's candidacy goodbye. Say hello to President McCain."

Good point. I remember that when Clinton started campaigning for John Kerry, the media reacted as though they had just seen Popeye devour a can of spinach. Then Kerry lost anyway.

It's well known that by a large margin, the US military is made up of conservatives. Perhaps for some reason he and his leftist brethren see the need for a counterforce more loyal to them?

Barak might be suffering from Asperger's Syndrome; not aware of what he is saying while he is saying it. Although the clear implication of what he what he said is obvious to us all, I suspect that when called on it, he will back-track (flip-flop) and claim that he was referring to a 'domestic Peace Corps', not unlike the C.C.C. of the New Deal ear. This would be in keeping with his "Serve the People" ethos. Remember his Commencement speech at Wesleyan U., where he extolled the grads to eschew 'middle-class' dreams in favor of a life of "Service". (I remember Mao's "Little Red Book" and his motto for the Cultural Revolution, "Serve the People.")
The phrase "Avoid Middle-classed-ness" has also been recently spoken by his wife and Rev. Jer. Wright, as well as having been a corner-stone of the Black Panther Party in the 1960's.

Perhaps Obama had in mind a militia force similar to the mutaween, that is, the Saudi religious police. That would be one way for those bitter folk whom Obama accuses of clinging to their guns and religion can exercise their full rights under the Second Amendment to the Constitution, as now vindicated by the recent decision of the US Supreme Court.

Gee, Obama wants to create his own army. HOW COME THE MEDIA ISN'T ALL OVER THIS LOVELY TID-BIT of information?!
They spend a day covering the New Yorker for a cover that, apparently, is right on the mark! HI, the COUNTRY and the world, needs to KNOW about this!!

Just as scary is the fact with Reid and Pelosi running the Senate and House they will give Comrade Obama the power to reduce the military and everything he wants for his Civilian Gestapo.

Why don't Liberals have the intelligence to see this?

And who will control this 'civilian force'?? Is Obama reading Hitler's play book? Will he give these civilian warriors shirts? How about a brown shirt? Fortunately Obama is self-destructive and hopefully McCain will 'stay out of the way.'

"If you don't have a shirt, you can always wear a brown shirt."

This guy is getting really scary. Why in the world would we need a National Police Force? Local cops aren't enough? Now in addition to education were going to nationalize police?
Does anyone else see a pattern here? This guy wants nothing less than a total take over of every aspect of life and now he wants a police force to enforce this? What exactly is this force going to do? Hmmmm? Patrol the country looking for? How reassuring knowing thousands of Federal Cops, bored as sin are now abusing their power like small town cops with a infinite amount of power?

Like the TSA guys? Welcome to modern Amerika. I guess next we will be asked to rat on our neighbors? Kids will attend mandatory Obama rallies? Will party membership be mandatory? Is he going to have his cronies burn congress and then use that as a excuse to abolish the opposition by blaming it on them? Will he get Congress to vote him supreme leader?

This really is quite amazing that a US candidate can advocate this level of tyranny and thousands of fawning minions love it. Have we come that close to sheep?

The failure of the old news media to pursue this notion for explanation is further evidence of their widespread journalistic fraud.

What is Obama planning that he needs his own version of the Soviet NKVD????

At this point, even any liberal who isn't a hypocrite ought to be calling for this wannabe dictator's head.

Brownshirts, that's all, brownshirts.

Hey Great! Brown shirts. And is the self-annointed messiah going to have this agency monitered like Homeland Security is . . . where there are over 1 million names of dangerous people like news reporters? What is really scary is that any intelligent person can take this paper candidate so seriously.
If you think Bush's ratings are low, wait about 2 years until after Nobama is elected
and then you'll see single digit ratings. His followers apparently think that his election would mean a bright new day . . . no wars or poverty, well not for Obama and his friends anyway.

I have always thought that everyone in this country should have to devote at least a year of civil service at age eighteen. Even to the point of denying the right to vote until it is completed, to foster a sense of national gratitude in a spoiled generation. (Not an original idea) But the idea always deteriorates when the thought of who could be directing these young idealistic minds and bodies comes into play.

Unbelievable..O'Bama you are absolutely unbelievable. Of all the times for the republican party to run a very mediocre candidat
for POTUS it has to be against this maniac with his groupies hanging on every "Hope and Change"
speech. BTW I thought the New Yorker cover was and is right on..McCain you better get your defecation in one pile and start throwing it..
Brian212

Hm-m, most interesting. I just went to view the You Tube video and it says: We're sorry, this video is no longer available.

Coincidental?

I think we have another piece of the puzzle added. BO is the best candidate to unify the country and he will do it by using his civilian storm troopers to erase any opposition. Every one left will be in unity with him. Let the Stalin-like purges begin.

The cadre will come from the likes of his "spiritual advisor's" congregation

Barry's problem is posse commitatus. The current military cannot be used for domestic law enforcement. This professor of Constitutional law must know that. Therefore we need a structure that, apparently does not supplant but augments the FBI, Federal Marshalls, ICE, ATF etc. Who, I wonder, will serve in this force? What paragons of virtue, exceeding what we find in uniform today, will man these posts? Just as well equipped as the current military? So.... stealth bombers and ICBMs? Armor and airlift? Grenades and DU cannons? It is time to state the simple truth that Barack Obama is an idiot. At least, that is the most charitable conclusion.

Well, yes, Obama is a 'stalinist' like Hilary, but, he's a different flavor, more like Mao or Pol Pot. My fear is that Obama really intends to unleash the 'cultural revolution' upon us.

This is seriously scary. SCARY!!!!

"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

I'm a proud PUMA and I love the USA. I feel it in my bones that Obama would HARM our Nation beyond anything we have ever encountered.

You don't think Frau Michelle was just making an empty threat when she said that Obama would never let us go back to our lives as usual and that he was going to force us out of our comfort zones.

How else is he going to force us out of those comfort zone and our lives as usual? Simply through the power of magical words?

How else will he force our youth into volunteerism as he has threatened?

While we all know he has divine powers, sometimes a cult leader needs a little muscle, just ask Jim Jones.

Everyday reveals a deeper dark piece of Obama's mind. And each piece is prgressively more shocking.

Many great comments here, I'm with caststeel.

Obama learns and accepts communism. He manipulated the system with a lot of help from some of the worst American society has to offer, has his wife telling us what he will and will not allow, and now he wants to create a domestic military force. The statement he made can not be explained away. It's an assumption on a grand scale, to suggest creating something as large and powerful as the military, is even possible. Obama's words only reflect the size and scope of his real ambitions.

Anyone who thinks they will vote for Mickey Mouse because they don't like McCain needs to realize how crucial it is that Obama is not only defeated, but defeated with zero electoral votes. A close loss emboldens those lefty revolutionary a-holes. Lets make sure that B. Hussein Obama becomes something we can laugh at in January. If not, I'm going to go to the gun range a little more often. Gotta stay sharp.

Story problem: If Obama is standing on the deck of a sinking ship 57 miles due east of the Statue Of Liberty, with a wind out of the N,NE at 12 miles an hour. How many American flags will be flying from the mast, if Al Gore is using a blow torch to help Greenland melt faster?

FYI: At 16:44 to 17:00 on the embedded video.

After watching this speech I noticed that he is noticeably remembering what to say next.

Thank you! to any current or former military. I don't want anything else but what we have now: The Best!

I just remembered a FarSide cartoon that has a character holding a sign that says: "Down with Barry."

The US Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard) number approximately 1.39 million personnel. Reserve and National Guard add another 860,000 for a total military of about 2.25 million. The aggregate total civilian police (municipal, county, state, federal) personnel in the US is 4 to 5 million - roughly twice the military total. In addition, our population of 300 million includes probably 200 million adults, most of whom are not convicted felons or suffering any mental impairment, and therefore not prohibited from owning such firearms as they may chose and can afford - at least not yet. And since this vast potential force would be funded by the wealth of the nation not diverted into taxes, if even 5 percent of those eligible actual exercise the right to keep and bear arms, the population constitutes a civilian security force much larger and potential more powerful and better funded than the military - and one much more likely to be close at hand when needed, if only gov't functionaries will stop interfering with it. This could be why the Federal Militia Act defines the militia of the nation as all adult males under the age of 65. Mr Obama is perhaps not aware of these facts? Or perhaps he is, and, like any good Marxist, annoyed that none of these civilian security forces can be conveniently controlled by any one individual or group? We like it that way!

The Washington Post had a piece that ran on July 2, with lots of details....except one.

Are we seeing just how dangerous the liberal mass media can be?

I just can't believe this!!! And zippo from our "the public has a RIGHT to know" Lame Stream Media???
Will the ObaMessiah pander to the gays, by having one heading this para-military corps? (ala Roehm's Sturmabteilung SA) Will we have another "Night of the Long Knives" where he's arrested, convicted and executed, only to be replaced by a rabid lil' chicken farmer (ala Himmler's Shultzstaffen SS) who'll rule our Reich's People? Will we be putting those abandoned internment camps, out in the desert, back into use? Maybe an euthanasia program for the mentally challenged, because they're such a burden on society, followed by concentration camps for the "undesirables". (Staffed by our own lil' chicken farmer's "boy scouts"?) "Ein ich und beginner" INDEED! This political naif is BEYOND scary!!!
BTW Neil, you can add the statistic of 23 MILLION veterans in our country too! Traitors like (French Poodle) Kerry and John Murtha, (being the overwhelming MINORITY) notwithstanding. As earlier pointed out, the overwheming majority of veterans are God-fearing, law-abiding Patriots, who would NEVER tolerate this kind of Socialist/Nazi indoctrinational organization!
I only hope these kind of statements, from B-HO, breaks the hypnotic trance that has enthralled the lib-tards in this country!!! GOD help us, if this lying, afro-centric, racist, neo-Socialist isn't SOUNDLY defeated in November! He's not just a bad choice, he's an existential threat to our country, as we know it!

In drama, when overacting occurred, the saying was 'you've gone over the top." Well, you folks are over the top here too. If you think Obambi is that bad, wait until leaders surface from the street during a new depression. Then you need to worry - not from Obambi. He's a smart idealist, a little slick - Fast Barry - much like Pierre Trudeau was or like European 'Social Democrats.' He won't be envied when he faces the huge problems the next President will have on his desk; humble pie will come to him for his hubris, don't worry. But again, no need to go 'over the top.'

K. Denning: I don't think its over the top to point out a quote in context that has major constitutional implications. You may be correct about the humble pie, but lets take a step back and see where this guy is coming from.

He is a black liberation theologist/muslim with ties to terrorists. He just advocated for a para military police force. He wants to be president. Why should I not react in a severe manner? Obama has just become the most dangerous threat to our country. Regardless of your cavalier attitude and faith in the laws of this country, I have that confidence as well, but I don't care how minimal the threat, a threat of this nature must be beaten back fiercely and unyieldingly. I do not take this comment lightly. It speaks volumes in context of Obama's extremist past.

I know you could at least agree that this comment should be talked about at least as much as McCain's "100 year war" comment. Not a peep. And anywhere there was, the quote seems to be missing.

We first wrote of this on the 9th of July and we know have the video snippet.

Until Barack comes clean as to what exactly he was talking about, I am still very much suspicious of this man's goals and intentions.

Our rebuttal to Lee Cary's piece here:

http://www.anewtone.com/2008/07/baracks-civilian-national-security.html

Snooper thanks for the link. I am going to watch the video again. Lets keep this fresh.

Some other quotes of note for perspective:

"I learned to slip back and forth between my black and white worlds. One of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved -- such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry all the time."

"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists."

"If [black] nationalism could create a strong and effective insularity, deliver on its promise of self-respect, then the hurt it might cause well-meaning whites, or the inner turmoil it caused people like me, would be of little consequence."

And now:
"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

"...A strong and effective insularity..." Is Hussein Obama lining up his ducks?

Here is a related article that I believe Obama is really referring to in regards to what that civilian security force would do and who would be in that force: http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/hey-kids-be-a-climate-cop-rat-on-your-family-friends-and-classmates/ Now if that doesn't send a chill up your spine I don't know what will. Will AT be following up on this?

Kerry, thanks for reminding me about the 23 million military vets - being one, I tend to overlook them sometimes. I would guess that we could also add a similar, if not larger, number of former and retired police and security officers.

One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post is to question why Mr Obama feels we need a powerful (more powerful than the military) civilian security force. For national security, as in defense against terrorists? If that was truly his motive, he would be working against, rather than for, the continued deterioration of Second Amendment protections (and his voting record on that count speaks volumes more than his sound bite after the Supreme Court ruling on the DC gun ban). What other purpose can a huge "civilian" security force have? Perhaps as a counter to the military? To ensure that the government can not use the military to enforce dictatorial rule and usurp constitutionally enummerated rights? Well, Mr Obama, two facts on that point. First, lets look at the example of other nations in organizing "civilian" security forces as a counter to the military - they invariably fall under the control of the very government that they are supposed to protect against, and they invariably become military, or at least para-military in organization, equipage, and function (The Nazi SA and SS, the Soviet NKVD, the Panamanian Defense Force under Noriega, etc). What nation currently has such a scheme in place? Iran - in the form of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, whose purpose it to keep the government in power (in the event that the less radical military might try to depose it) rather than protect the people from government excess. Is this perhaps what Mr. Obama has in mind?

Second, as stated before, in the US, the civilian "security force" to prevent government use of the military for unlawful suppression of the people is established by the Second Amendment, which people like Obama have worked very hard to negate. The aforementioned military and police veterans constitute a group likely to own firearms in larger proportion than the population at large. Which means an unorganized, but trained and armed civilian force of probably 40 to 50 million, in addition to perhaps another 25 to 50 million in the population at large. Sufficient to deter invasion, terrorism, crime, and government oppression, if not hamstrung by government interference. Our leaders need to be reminded of this on a regular basis, and we must especially drive home the fact that our right to keep and bear arms is an effective deterrent only if it is a real, unfettered right, and only if government restrictions have not given the impression that the right has been rendered impotent. Remember that in the context of an ongoing and global struggle with terrorists - to give the impression that the American people, or geographic segments thereof, are unarmed, or unable, unwilling, or afraid to use their arms in their own defense, is to invite attack.
