Are 32,000 Scientists Enough to Question Global Warming 'Consensus?'

Marc Sheppard
The National Press Club in Washington will today release the names of as many as 32,000 American Scientists who reject not only Kyoto-style greenhouse gas limits, but the very premise of manmade global warming itself.

On Saturday, Lawrence Solomon wrote a great piece in the National Post (h/t Benny Peiser) which begged the question:

"How many scientists does it take to establish that a consensus does not exist on global warming?"

How many, indeed?

Solomon, author of The Deniers: The World Renowned Scientists Who Stood Up Against Global Warming Hysteria, Political Persecution, and Fraud**And those who are too fearful to do so, reminds us that 32,000 scientists have now signed the "Oregon petition," which states that

"We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

How might anyone of clear mind consider these words from these numbers and still accept claims of scientific consensus?  Or calls for any -- let alone immediate -- action?

Solomon also points out that these dissenting scientists - over 9,000 of whom hold Ph.Ds -- now outnumber the environmentalists that attended the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio that actually kicked off the global warming craze.  And, I might add, far exceed the count of UN IPCC "scientists" whose calamitous predictions lie at the very heart of climate hysteria and what Solomon calls "the Kyoto Protocol's corruption of science."

But will their sheer numbers nullify the "settled science" argument?

Not if the alarmists have any say it won't.  Solomon offers a brief history of attempts to bury all such previous accords. First by mocking the limited number of signatures on earlier appeals, and then -- when the original Oregon petition boasted 17,800 signatories -- claiming duplicate or fraudulent names.  And even when all names were ultimately verified as authentic (save one actually planted by agents of Greenpeace), the MSM still ignored their consequence.

Sixteen years ago, the Rio event attracted over 7,000 journalists who dutifully spread the word of man's inhumanity to his habitat to an appreciative world.  Will today's official announcement of 32,000 men and women of science who, by their physical signature, reject mankind's guilt capture any media attention at all?

Or, for that matter, that of climate experts Gore, Boxer, Lieberman, Warner, Clinton, Obama, or, most despicably -- McCain?

As the science no longer appears to concern any of them -- don't hold your CO2 polluted breath.

Yet their denials change nothing - the wheels continue to fall off the warmist dungwagon.

The genie's out of the bottle. I believe only the collapse of the American economy followed by the collapse of America will stop this juggernaut.

The only natural cycle I see in this example by and for extremist Republicans and Christians is the typical failure to produce even 1 itty bitty prediction in the future of Earth's planetary ecosystem to prove any of the 32,001+ galley rowers on their flat earth has any scientific competence outside of corporate golden parachutes and umbrellas.

"When hopes and dreams are loose in the streets, it is well for the timid to lock doors , shutter windows and lie low until the wrath has passed. For there is often a monstrous incongruity between the hopes, however noble and tender, and the actions that follows them. It is as if ivied maidens and garlanded youths were to herald the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
And p.12
"People who see their lives as irremediably spoiled cannot find a worth-while purpose in self-advancement...Their innermost craving is for a new life - a rebirth - or failing this, a chance to acquire new elements of pride, confidence, hope, a sense of purpose and worth by an identification with a holy cause. An active mass movement offers them opportunities for both..." and P. 13
" It is true that in the early adherents of a mass movement there are also adventurers who join in the hope that that the movement will give a spin to their wheel of fortune and whirl them to fame and power." (op. cit)

"National Climate Data Center's recent announcement of the coldest April in more than a decade and the 29th coolest since record keeping began 114 years ago. The average temperature was 1 degree cooler than the average April temperature of the entire 20th century.
A few weeks ago, as North America was emerging from one of its coldest and snowiest winters in decades, the climate center issued a statement saying that snow cover on the Eurasian land mass had been the most extensive ever recorded, and that this March had been only the 63rd warmest since 1895.
On April 24, the World Wildlife Fund published a study, based on September's 2007 data, showing that Arctic ice had shrunk from 13 million square kilometres to just 3 million. What the WWF omitted was that by March the Arctic ice had recovered to 14 million square kilometres and that the ice cover around the Bering Strait and Alaska was at the highest level ever recorded..." --Investor's Business Daily

"How many scientists does it take to establish that a consensus does not exist on global warming?"
Any positive, non-zero integer will do, but 32,000 works nicely.

Since I'm not opposed to mixing a metaphor or two, lets have a go:
Looks like Al Gore put the global warming horse before the cart - by making big stink about AGW WAY before there actually was any scientific agreement - and made a global horses behind of himself in doing so.

So where does that leave us:
With Al Gore comprising the hind quarters of a horse trying to push a bandwagon that's losing its wheels.

And the left accuses W of being stupid.

No one remembers the same groups who said we were all going to be dead from holes in the ozone. All you had to do was follow the money on that one. I wonder where the money trail is leading now.

This seems to be a roster of American scientists. How, much larger would the list be if we had a petition for Russian, Chinese and Indian scientists as well?

It is supreme arrogance to think that Humans who have been on this planet for such a miniscule amount of time are somehow affecting climate change on a planet that has never known climate stability is beyond ridiculous. Our time here is just a blip in the cosmos. Global Warming is a Huge Scam.

Anotherchink in the armor for the Theory of Manbearpig. It is amzing that people still believe in the socialists theory of Manmade Global Warming, even the people of the IPCC stated it was a way to slow down the US economy.
YestheEarth haswrmed, for a couple hundred years now, since the Little Ice Age.

Thanks for this. These 32,000 scientists are revolutionaries! As Orwell said, "During times of universal deceit telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." Now if our "maverick" presidential nominee were truly a maverick, he'd leap on this. sigh...

It is becoming harder and harder for the AGW crowd to hide its totalitarian true colors.
They want the power to control every decision in the world and will ride the AGW horse until it dies, and then find another to further their goals.

Ozonator, do read the material before you make more of a fool of yourself.
We have all made valid predictions for years without any dire warnings of disasters to come. For the last time I shall impart the wisdon of the great Tao...The climate will change. Live with it. Please.

To "Ozonator" I suppose its useless to point out that you have not advanced any argument to support your apparent position. So, to reply in kind, you are emblematic of the ignorant buffoons who have in so many eras let yourselves be tricked, apparently not a difficult thing for you, into failing the simplest criteria of judgment or reasoning.

@ozonator

"The only natural cycle I see in this example by and for extremist Republicans and Christians is the typical failure to produce even 1 itty bitty prediction in the future of Earth's planetary ecosystem to prove any of the 32,001+ galley rowers on their flat earth has any scientific competence outside of corporate golden parachutes and umbrellas."

I wonder which is worse - no prediction, or a prediction that is fatally flawed?

Many of the climate scientists leading the global warming charge have been categorically wrong in their predictions before. The same stridently vocal cadre of alarmists predicted in the late 1970's that by 2010 we'd be headed towards another Ice Age. That one was wrong too.

It's hard enough to provide meaningful local weather forecasts, let alone predict global climate fifty years out. Why? Because the number of variables at play is enormous and the number of possibilities in how those variables interact is staggeringly high. Kind of like the odds of your winning the lottery on any given day.

These predictions are based in large measure on computer models, and there are two major weaknesses to these computer models:

The first is that these models produce a wide range of outcomes based on how the variables in the model are set. The AGW folks have found a combination of variables that produces pretty colour maps of warming. But they failed to show you the other thousand or two thousand runs of the model in which things turned out differently. Of course you choose the output that matches your point of view, but that doesn't mean that it's the valid outcome, just that it's one of many possible outcomes. But they have deceptively withheld the other possible outcomes because they don't fit the narrative, which means it's no longer science, it's marketing.

The other weakness with computer models is a little more technical. Even the largest computers and distributed computing centres have limits on the number of variables they can process in any model. Unfortunately, nature shows us daily that it has far more variables and variability than our models can accommodate. This means, of course, that we have to have a high degree of certainty that the variables we've chosen to populate our model are the most relevant variables. Otherwise, it's just an exercise in futility. Chances are very good that we don't even understand a significant number of the variables that pertain to the sun and how it operates, let alone include them in our models.

You're more than welcome to believe what you do, but I think that until you've honestly assessed and digested all the facts, you'd have to admit that you're just operating out of faith and not out of reason.

There aren't any more crackpots, quacks and kooks in this list of 32K than you would find in any population of 32,000 people. They have issues with the science underlying the claims of Algore and his cronies.

I've had enough graduate level statistics to recognise that the majority of the studies I see quoted rely on a statistical phenomenon known as correlation. Correlation means that two variables occur together more often than not. It doesn't speak at all to the real issue - causation. The question is whether CO2 causes elevated mean global atmospheric temperatures not whether elevated level of both occur together. So far, what's been established is that the two variables occur together, but that's a long, long way from proving that one causes the other. As an example, and this is an old one, hemlines above the knee accompany periods of history in which stock prices are high. Is it proper to say then that high stock prices cause high hemlines, or worse, that high hemlines cause high stock prices? Of course not. Most reasonable people will conclude that although the two variables are correlated, they don't share a causative relationship.

Don't you think that if Algore and all of his celebrity buddies really believed in what they preach, they'd live lives that are more in concert with their beliefs? The fact is that they don't. They continue to use private jets, limousines, live in large lavish home with scads of lights and high heating/cooling footprints. The Governor of California, while pushing global warming initiatives down the taxpayers throats commutes via private jet from Santa Monica airport to Sacramento almost daily. Is that the behaviour of someone who's really convinced that CO2 emissions, including jet airplane exhaust, is causing the end of the world? The proof of their beliefs is in their behaviour, not in their words. For them, cutting carbon footprint is for the sucker classes, not the royalty of the world, like themselves.

You, my friend, sound like a good loyal member of the sucker classes.

Good luck to you with that.

As a petition signer, I would point out that science is not about debate or consensus, nor is it about provable facts. It is based on a cycle of hypotheses or theories and the experiments designed to test them. Technically, a hypothesis is never "proven" in science, a body of experimental evidence and data accumulates to strongly suggest that it is true, but all hypotheses and theories remain subject to occasional review and revision. In the case of global warming we have an apparent rise in both temperature and carbon dioxide levels, and a hypothesis that connects them. The fact that the two do not correspond well does not seem to bother the adherents of the hypothesis. In fact, they have circularly taken to citing the computer models, which are actually part of the hypothesis, as evidence for the hypothesis. The real science in this farce is scant indeed.

The public has been misled by agenda-driven activists who have helped create an apparent belief that science is like a season of American Idol, with an idea becoming truth because it is popular. Nothing could be further from the truth, and history has shown that false ideas have, on occasion, been very popular and it was due to skepticism, and a persistent lack of consensus, that better ideas eventually emerged. Charlatans have attempted to hijack science to push an agenda in the past, and they were always exposed. Unfortunately, the public's understanding of the nature of science is always a victim in these episodes.

Holy Moeller! Golly Gale!

Based on your neglect of reality, I include examples of current scientific predictions based on the freely exported extremist Republicans and Christians for fun and profit missed in the natural cycle of greed and hatred. Mr. Marc Sheppard only does a good $10,000 job repeating others' propaganda including predicting nothing so much as a New York second in the future to dispelled the evidence of scientific incompetence and inmorality. Personally, I missed in Sheppard's tired piece, the Marc Morano type lobbyists who "claim" to prove this week's current earth change ideology with evidence from Viking farmers and mushroom use along with no SUVs on Mars.

Earthquake predictions last for 2-weeks and are correct if within 0.5 Richters of minimum.

Those who have an unbending faith in human caused climate change (i.e.global warming) are flat-climate proselytizers who know they could have prevented such un-natural errors, such as the Grand Canyon, from forming.

Remember, when you see a golf course think Scotland and glaciation. Golf courses are an attempt to re-create glacial terrain.

Which 5 billion people would the greens remove and how will they remove them?
Hmmm.

Not only can climate models not reliably predict the future climate, they cannot even replicate the historical climate.
Imagine that; these climate models cannot even "predict" the climate that has occured.
A good test of these models is to input the weather and associated variables for say, Kansas City on Jan. 1, 1950; then "turn on" the computer and see its "forcast" over the next 50 years.
Of course, no one will run this common sense experiment because we all know the answer will be TOTALLY WRONG !!
If the models were remotely reliable they should replicate the historic climate fairly accurately.

If not 32,000 then how about 7 billion? If global warming is man-made it's because of the number of men. More roads built, more homes built, more fuel needed to heat them and cook the food that is grown to feed them, more land paved over for parking lots, more nostrils exhaling CO2, the list goes on. Doesn't the earth have a maximum carrying capacity?

Huge amounts of computer-generated garbage have posted in previous several "comments". Please compare with that posted to http://ideonexus.com/2008/02/01/ozonatorrrrrrr/

A thousand pardons, Ozonator, but I do not understand the content of your post. So your models can predict earthquakes - what does this have to do with global temperatures?

The SUN really is magnificent...dont forget the real boss

I see - ozonator is a bot. Noted.

Global warming proves G.K Chesteron's point: "When people stop believing in God, they don't believe in nothing -- they believe in anything."

Methinks Ozonator has gone around the bend. Note the word "model" consistently appears in all the posts. This is the main point. All of the predictions are based on "models", not hard factual evidence. However give him credit for showing his true colors,,socialist red

The article misses the point, "consensus" isn't science! When will we see an actual test that supports that global warming is a man-made phenomenon? What we've seen/heard is data and lots of hypothoses, which is only 2/3 of what it takes to make something science. The final and most important third is to design and carry out a test that supports (or disproves) the hypothoses.

Let's look a just a couple other historical cases of "consensus": Galileo underwent immense scrutiny because he had the audacity to go against the consensus that the sun revolves around the earth. It wasn't until he designed and carried out a test proving his point that it began to be accepted (though it was still a major fight). Also, when Columbus set sail for what's now America, the consensus is that he would sail off the edge of what consensus believed was a flat planet. There are many other historical cases where consensus did its best to thwart science.

Let's call "global climate change" what it is: Al Gore's cooked up scheme to make the people afraid of something so he could raise money off their fears and give government a justification for yet another tax. If it's so critical, then why does Al Gore take private jets, which are huge carbon emitters, around the country to tell everyone else to cut back?

A couple questions... 1. Why were the 1930's a warmer decade that today if the planet is now warming? Might that indicate some sort of natural cycle?
2. Why in the 1970's did Time warn us of entering the next ice age? 3. How do we explain previous ice ages and the warming causing the melting of the ice if it's a man-made issue? 4. Can you really call carbon a pollutant being that it's a natural element and the plant life of the earth depend on it for its very survival?!

The environmental movement is essentially exclusionary, and functions as a 'Hate' Science Rights Commission as evidenced, elegantly by example in this piece by L. Auster on the Ontario Human Rights Commission vs columnist Mark Steyn over 'islamphobia'...a necessary defense word for Western Civiliztional survival..here is Austers piece on the liberal mind and its ulltimate irrationality...http://www.amnation.com/vfr/archives/010605.html

All People Are Good, Except You

A quote from Lawrence Auster at his blog, 15 May 2008

The key to the [Ontario Human Rights] Commission's thinking is in its labeling, as wrongful "Islamophobia," the view that Islam is a threat to the West. The assumption underlying such a judgment, whether about Islamophobia or bigotry generally, is that all people are good (except for people who don't believe that all people are good), and that no people can be a threat (except for those people who believe that some people can be a threat). Since all people (that is, all people who don't hate nothing except hatred) are good, and since no people are enemies (except for the people who believe that there are enemies), any negative statement about a group (except for negative statements about the society's own majority group) is by definition a false, vicious, dehumanizing attack on that group.

The core error of this liberal view is that it never considers the possibility that some people and groups (other than the majority peoples of the West) may indeed be enemies. Specifically, it never entertains the possibility that Islam is in fact a threat to the West. If Islam is a threat to the West, then saying that Islam is a threat to the West is not an act of bigotry but a statement of truth and part of a legitimate effort to protect the West from a real enemy. By condemning and punishing such defense as illegal bigotry, modern liberalism prohibits the West from defending itself.

In short, liberalism has taken group conflict, a normal feature of human history, and turned it into an immoral act, with the further twist that only the West is capable of exhibiting such immorality against other groups, while other groups are incapable of exhibiting the same immorality against the West.

How does liberalism get away with seeing only Westerners' negative statements about Islam as wrongful, but not Muslims' threatening statements about the West? Very simple. Under liberalism, there is no society "here" to be attacked. Under liberalism, Canada is not a substantive entity--not a nation, not a culture, not a people, not a "group." Canada is, instead, a system for the promotion of human rights. Not being a concrete group or culture, Canada cannot be an object of bigotry. But Muslims and other immigrants, who are concrete entities, can be objects of bigotry. Muslims are a group and therefore deserve to be protected from discrimination. Canadians are not a group and therefore do not require protection from discrimination.

In short, Western peoples do not need protection under the modern liberal order because modern liberalism, in its very premises, has already defined the Western peoples out of existence. This is why it's a waste of time looking for liberals and mainstream conservatives (who accept the premises of liberalism as much as the liberals do) to protect us. Under modern liberalism, the Western peoples have already in principle ceased to exist, and all that's left is the mopping up operation.

The Commission, by the way, makes an interesting Freudian slip. After pointing out that Ontario's anti-discrimination laws do not infringe on publications and books, it mentions the more sweeping anti-discrimination laws in other Canadian jurisdictions, with the obvious intent that Ontario emulate them:

Limits to freedom of expression under some other human rights legislation in Canada are broader, stating that no person shall publish, issue or display before the public any statement, publication, notice, sign, symbol or other representation.

Of course the Commission left out a phrase. It meant to say something along the lines that no person shall publish any statement, symbol, etc. "that discriminates against anyone." By leaving out the words, "that discriminates against anyone," the Commission makes it sound as though the law prohibits all statements, publications, and symbols, period. Meaning, the total cessation of public writing and speaking. I call this a Freudian slip because, as argued here, the prohibition of all discourse is the logical end toward which liberalism is really heading.

After reading Mr.Ozonator's last paragraph I believe he might be the "man behind the curtain" in the Wizard of Oz. WOW!!

I expect that if Al Gore Ron Hubbard had his way, his eco-cult would openly persecute anyone who didn't adopt his dogma.

Can someone direct me to a link for the National Press Club that reflects the above mentioned article please?

I would like to use it as a reference to try and convince friends about the "greatest hoax ever" because that's what it is.

best

"The small gene pool of rich, white, fat American males is a master race and with remote sensing organs to determine that the Chinese were asking for death and destruction since they wouldn't be LABI slaves or organ donors."

Wow, well I suppose I should backup and point out a simple fact of providing an argument for debate which is when you begin to hurl personal insults to those of us rich, fat, white American males then you're argument holds no water. The basis for your proof should be the facts and not your ability to show clear and obvious ignorance about the people in the United States.

With that aside...

I didn't realize that geological events were also influenced by global warming? Hell, it seems like everything is caused by global warming. Cancer, headaches, even losing your money is blamed on Global Warming.

I'll tell you what. If someone who believes in Global Warming can tell me what the weather conditions on May 20th, 2038 (30 years from today) are going to be for the Phoenix AZ area then I will believe that we have the ability to predict climate 30 years away.

30 years ago, we were told we had 10 years till it was too late. Then 20 years ago we were told we had 10 years till it was to late. Then 10 years ago we were told we had 10 years till it was to late.

Is anyone seeing a pattern here?

The earth might be warming, but man certainly isn't causing it. There have been warming and cooling periods before people were here, before there were cars and coal fired power plants.

As for these models predicting the earthquake in China, there's an old saying that "even a broken watch is right twice a day."

Too bad nobody told the Chinese there was going to be an earthquake. I'd say that would have saved a lot of lives. On the subject of China, I believe that country is expected to surpass the United States in pollution within the next few years because of their industrial development. If it's SO important to save the planet then why is the US the only country forced to reduce emissions? Why don't we force everyone to do it?

Things like the Kyoto accord are designed to bring the US economy down a peg or two and allow international economies to catch up.

The proof is in what people DO and not what they say. I might not be a student of science but I am one of human nature. If this threat were real and people REALLY believed we were close to the tipping point, we would see major changes in behavior. The only thing changing the behavior of Americans is high gas prices and hopefully we get our act together so we can keep the international market going.

Believe me, the world would miss us a lot more than they would hate having us around.

Ozonator - It's time to clean your Mom's basement and restock your Cheeto supply before the bio-vibe excitoplasma heat blast from the Moon takes out the planet. Be sure you have plenty of AMP or Mountain Dew to hold you over till the Earth's crust cools enough to go to the 7-11 for a slurpee too.

Science is not formed by public opinion poles. It is fact based. Global warming is a fact, reported in scientific literature. That people don't like it doesn't change it. If these scientist had evidence to show the facts were wrong, they could publish that and become famous. That has not happened. Science works on peer reviewed papers which collectively represent the facts as we know them. If someone disagrees, they need to either prove it or show where the original paper is flawed. That is how science works. It is fact based, not consensus based.

With all due respect, Ozonator, with regard to your post of 19 may 19:03 - mixing in phrases like "Extremist Republicans and Christian sell advertising space for blaming the victims through environmental racism" et al, that expose your strange and ill-founded hatred of anyone to the right of Chairman Mao, does nothing to improve the brain-hurting incoherence of your pseudo-science. May I suggest that you spend a couple of decades studying mathematical modeling - as I, and thousands of others, have - before you try to use those models as support for your "argument"? The amount of education you would apparently require (based on reading your screed) before you could viably discuss the use of modeling even in a simple context, much less that of geophysics/climatology, is very large, and would greatly exceed the space that is available here. I see no point in attempting to reply substantively to your rambling and science-free posting, but I would like to respectfully suggest that you bring your ill-informed leftism to a more suitable forum. The grownups are trying to talk here.

Hope you feel better soon.

What in bloody hell are ozonator and bonzo talking about? They Don't make a bit of sense proving Gale's point.

I don't get the anger of these armies of deniers. Your movement, to challenge theorists by proposing theories is contradictory.

To say CO2 increase benefits is to propose a theory. I suppose we need to have 1 million scientists now sign a document saying April was the coldest month, and March was the warmest, and the snow was the deepest, and sea level rising.
In the end, the economy will suffer the consequence of globalization, what the world pays for oil, the US pays for oil. When it is 10 bucks a gallon, you'll see the cuts in consumption, the efficient clean technologies will compete, and the global weather experiment will continue.
What is in store for a cleaner America, more predictable rain, and greater daily temperature ranges. Hopefully the jet-stream will slide south for the next decade and bring some rain to the southern states. If not, watch the forests burn. Floridians will pray for sea level rise just to put the fires out.
A rising sea may float all boats, but it floods all communities at the same time.

@ Ozonator

I am stunned by your lack of scientific knowledge. There is nothing in either of your posts that resembles cogent thought on this subject. Using the term Extremist Republican is an oxymoron. There's nothing extreme about Republicans. In fact, the party has moved so far to the left, there's no difference between it and the FDR democRats.

As they say, "Follow the money." Government scientists who buy into the globaloney that Algore makes his millions from will be out of jobs, once the hoax is totally destroyed.

I especially like the following reference: "4. Easter Island - South West Pacific Basin - New Zealand"
("GBRWE 5/18 - 24/08's Extreme Planetary Warnings for Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Solar/Terrestrial Flares from Human Activities"; your Ozonator, Supplemental; GBRWE 5/18 - 24/08, 5/17/08)." Some idiot thinks that human activity can have an effect on solar flares??? Incredible.

Most of your post contains references to "models". Computer modeling is the least reliable of predictors of future events. Might as well use a crystal ball. Models can be manipulated to give the results one wants to obtain, as evidenced by the clowns at the IPCC. In fact, using computer models, scientists have plugged in historical data to see if the computer would "predict the present" and the models failed. Game, set, match. You are off the wall.

Moderators.

Could you please block the crackpots here?

I can feel my IQ dropping reading some of the comments here and it's giving me a headache.

Seems to me, from basic predictive statistics, that the accuracy of the prediction will drop for each sucessive cycle.

So for 10 Januaries, the temperature averages will permit the prediction of the 11th (next cycle) January.

As I recall, this would be within a standard deviation of accuracy.

However, using the 11th to predict a 12th and so forth, the accuracy dives into the dirt.

How these people can "predict" what is going to happen 'n' cycles out, with any certainty at all, is beyond me.

The total brain void on the existence of the carbon cycle and the water cycle and how they work, is also a mind bender.

I think my friend, Kati, was right: These people spent their time passing notes in Science class. They have no critical thinking skills.

As for the "Scientists" who believe in this nonsense, they are obviously on the Glow-Bull warming gravy train.

I noticed when I was a young boy, that warm weather and lack of rainfall tend to correspond well to the solar cycle.

Since we've just started a new one, I suggest you pay attention to that, instead of the uneducated St. Al Gore.

Agenda + money + propaganda = Al Gore -he would have made Goebbels proud.

-Tom

I like to talk about stool.

Any grade-schooler in Minnesota can tell you that it's colder and the days are shorter in January, and that the snow melts first on the sunny side of the house.
Without much thought, they figure it has something to do with the sun.
By the time they reach middle school, they learn that ice sheets used to cover
the land that they live on. As to why the ice melted, they may not have an explanation, but it's easy to conclude that man, his factories and autos were not contributors.

Solar flares causes gloabl warming?
Wow, next you'll suggest that the moon influences sea levels...

I think we forget other facts in this issue.

A few years back, the "Global Warming Computer Model" was recanted as being hopelessly innacurate.

When fed known, measured, historical data, it failed to come close at all to what happened subsequently.

Being of an older age than most of Al Gore's disciples of doom, I will point out what I have to others during debates on this subject.

How many nuclear weapon detonations would it take to kill the planet? This is far worse than CO2 emissions, don't you think?

Well, for us old guys, we remember before the above ground test treaty, that between the nuclear powers of the US, Soviet Union, UK, France, etc. there were hundreds of above ground detonations.

Hmm, I'm still here, aren't you?

In fairness I took the time to read Al Gore's website today.

It was masterful propaganda frosted well with syrupy delusion.

Lines about "we are the footsoldiers of the war on Global Warming" -or climate change or whatever.

Good God. Can't anyone see this for what it is?

The man is obviously psychotic and in need of a rubber room and serious psyche meds.

-Tom

I don't know-every morning I look from my balcony in the Bronx out over NYC and I see a brown band from the Jersey side all the way -180 degrees across the Manhattan and toward LI. It blows me away tothink we create that every day and live in it. Since the earth's atmosphere is a closed system, where do these gases go. Since we are deforesting the planet at such a fast rate, we are reducing the planet's capacity to process the "greenhouse" gas portion of this pollution. And this trend simply continues day after day. Where does it go exactly? I know that the CO2 in our atmosphere is at 385 ppm and it was at around 280 ppm pre-industrial revolution. Seems to me, it is a relatively sane hypothesis to say the concentration of carbon monoxide and dioxide is simply increasing in the atmosphere. Given what I see every day and thinking it is going on in cities everywhere-and much worse in China-I don't think it is such a leap to say manmade gases are warming the planet-ever so slightly, but continually and to its detriment.

sc scmidt...

Herein lies the classic problem of "Global" warming.

Your localized air pollution is tied to your belief that the function is global and crisis levels.

Out here in sunny California, the air is clear, the skies are blue. We have a bit of dust from the wind kicking up the agricultural stuff, but other than that, is fine.

Drive for 5 hours to the south, and comiserate with Los Angeles... whose pollution is much better than it was in the 1970's.

You need to do some more diggging. I believe that it was Michael Creighton who did the football field analogy.

Roughly: From the opposite goal line to the one where we are standing he lays out the component gasses of the atmosphere.

Man's contribution to CO2 is equal to the edge of a quarter (a quarter standing on end) -down at this goalpost.

A corn field can dump more hydrocarbons into the air just growing, than some freeways. Yet, we insist we must grow corn for ethanol, which now has been shown to be not just stupid, but REALLY stupid as a solution. It also has rampant unintended consequences.

Just remember, Mt. Pinotubo pumped more pollution into the air than ALL of our industrialized civilization.

A) It did not kill us or the planet.

B) Even if we wanted to, we can't cork a volcano.

Remember too, if you increase CO2 and heat up a bit, you get more crop growth, and this supports larger populations. That is mere history, should you decide to go look.

Step one: Get that mind parasite out of your head that says all things you think are evil, are therefore the fault of man, capitalism, etc. etc. It is an old argument.

In "Tower of Secrets" -about a KGB defector, there is a great chapter where he discusses the Soviet Communist mentality with his wife.

Chief idea: If you have wealth, you got it by screwing someone else.

This is the problem I have with all of this. We can't just look and measure and adjust hypotheses, we have to say, the hypothesis is the proof of itself (bad logic) and then hard wire blame to the USA.

This is just worn out old Soviet propaganda and Communist agitprop garbage that has filtered down to the uninformed.

Read Dixy Lee Ray's "Trashing the Planet" and the sequel. Then see what you think.

BTW- I also don't believe we are deforesting the planet as you say. Like your smog, there are regional issues, but not global ones.

Standing on your balcony and having opinions about your own opinion and observation is not science.

But that is EXACTLY what Al Gore is counting on you will do.

Think about it, Sparky.

-Tom

Furthermore...

If the earth is in a steady state, and we are the only ones who can screw it up, then you've opened a huge can of worms.

A fun example is this:

http://www.world-mysteries.com/sar_1.htm

If the earth was always as it is now, then how did someone map the area of Queen Maude land on the S. Pole as if they could navigate the coastline?

There are, of course, many more examples, that are not as anecdotal. The point being, there is record on some things which point to stasis as not being the typical case.

For some reason, the Global Warming tribe seems to believe that the earth should be as it is within their own lifetime. Discounting things like glacier national park, and evidence of ice in the lower portions of the USA, etc. etc.

That warming was certainly not by automobiles and capitalism.

-Tom

Nobel and Dan David Prize laureate Al Gore correctly said the "planet has a fever". American thinkers and stinkers can now see in real time the boils on the planet and on LABI Limbaugh brains. Out of 22 regional volcanic activities predicted, 10 were reported the 1st week of 4 weeks. This is 45% correct based on global warming from extremist Republicans and Christians.

Reporting Period 5/18 - 24/8, 1st reporting --Volcanoes were reported (volcano.si.edu/reports/usgs):

CHAITEN Southern Chile;
ETNA Sicily (Italy);
MERAPI Central Java (Indonesia);
KILAUEA Hawaii (USA);
PACAYA Guatemala;
RABAUL New Britain (PNG - Papua New Guinea);
SAKURA-JIMA Kyushu;
SHIVELUCH Central Kamchatka (Russia);
SOUFRIERE HILLS Montserrat;
TUNGURAHUA Ecuador; and
UBINAS Perú.

4 wpi (Western Pacific/Indian Oceans), 6 amer, and 1 eaa (Europe, Asia, and Africa)

For the 1st week in 4-weeks under Week 330, the Goma Model recorded (predicts) volcanic activity in regions (range of active volcanoes): 4 WPI (6 - 13), 6 Americas (4 - 10), 1 EAA (2 - 5), and 11 total (12 - 28).

"D. With included statistics, warnings for the Pickerell Model (5/18 - 24/08) of qualitative volcanic activity:
1. Botswana - St. Helena - Ascension Island - Montserrat - Guatemala - Mexico - Mt. St. Helens - Aleutians - Kamchatka;
2. Chile - Peru - Ecuador - Hawaii;
3. Italy - Dead Sea - Iraq - India - Indonesia - PNG; and
4. Easter Island - South West Pacific Basin - New Zealand"
("GBRWE 5/18 - 24/08's Extreme Planetary Warnings for Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Solar/Terrestrial Flares from Human Activities"; your Ozonator, Supplemental; GBRWE 5/18 - 24/08, 5/17/08).

But 45% is not a flat line even in Ann "Adam's Apple" Coulter's Viking bodice, "Has volcanic activity been increasing? We don't think so. A look at the number of volcanoes active per year, over the last few centuries, shows a dramatic increase, but one that is closely related to increases in the world's human population and communication. We believe that this represents an increased reporting of eruptions, rather than increased frequency of global volcanism ... reasonably comprehensive reporting of global volcanism began in the 1960s ... the number of confirmed erupting volcanoes has leveled off between 50 and 70 per year through the past 4 decades, and a linear regression line through the data indicates that volcanism has been virtually constant" ("Has volcanic activity been increasing?"; Frequently Asked Questions; The Smithsonian's Global Volcanism Program; volcano.si.edu, current as of 5/20/08).

"What in the world is the judiciary committee doing conducting hearings of Big Oil executives? Why not drag Algore's butt up there and have him defend all the efforts he's made to drive up the cost of fuel with his idiot science?" ("Wednesday Quotes: Stemming the Tide of Liberalism"; Mr. Rush "Chemical LABI" Limbaugh of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity - Persian Barbie dolls - extremist Republican and Christian corporate whore downer cow media outlets of plagiarism and Standard Oil; prison escapees from Planet-star Wormwoody Jenkins; rushlimbaugh.com, 5/21/08).

""I have one answer: Yes. The question is: Is renewable energy good for the Jews?" Nobel and Dan David Prize laureate Al Gore began his speech Tuesday night. "It is also, by the way, good for the Arabs, Americans, Europeans, Hindus, Christians," ... "We will dump another 70 million tons today, May 20, into our atmosphere, as if it is an open sewer," he stated angrily. Gore drew a parallel between the earth's current state and diagnosing a child's fever. "The planet has a fever. If your child has a fever ... "Our scientists have given us the diagnosis: We're burning too many carbon-based fuels ... We are now in danger of waiting too long. The time for choice is here" ... Earlier in the day, Gore said the Middle East's water shortage was a major part of the global climate crisis" ("Gore: Israel should play leading role in renewable energy"; By EHUD ZION WALDOKS, jpost.com, 5/21/08).

1. Francis T. Manns citing a few facts out of context only helps you to sleep better.
2. Ed H, Al Gore is not the punch line in an environmental racist joke.
3. Daniel DeLong provides an environmental racist joke happily ignoring the Chileans, Argentineans, South Africans, Australians, and New Zealanders succumbing to reduced UV protection.
4. NICK does not realize that Russian, Chinese and Indian scientists also take a dim view of American extremist environmental racism.
5. Patrick B failed to fund or predict squat to form no basis for grand illusions.
6. Stix name dropping the "Little Ice Age" is just a way to avoid May 2008 and to embrace the inner Viking rape and pillage.
7. Deborah Durkee?
8. Nate lacks enough facts to make his tiny predicted volcano to support an ideology that says that I want to control the world.
9. Tom Moeller also failed to predict squat, use a calendar, and tell us who his investors are.
10. Hal Ham - a Tom Moeller with more drooling and fewer sources of insider information.
11. Geoff Gale lacking predictions that you insist other produce is lazy and typical American extremist. You would make the prefect windbag manager of the current EPA or the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Esso free lunch program. ExxonMobil with give you extra to buy your way into heaven for the "no prediction, or a prediction that is fatally flawed? ... climate scientists leading the global warming charge have been categorically wrong in their predictions before ... models produce a wide range of outcomes ... deceptively withheld the other possible outcomes ... we don't even understand a significant number of the variables that pertain to the sun ... you'd have to admit that you're just operating out of faith and not out of reason. ... the sucker classes, not the royalty of the world, like themselves".

13. Bonzo fails to realize that pro-life is mass murder whereas blaming people like me for disliking golf courses has nothing to do with the lack of glaciers and all the pesticide use increasing death and disease for even stupid adults chasing a little white ball at the crack of dawn.
Adelph Caleb we are in May 2008 and you can't even cite a biased example from the past let alone a volcano.
Pat - good job.
14. James Beam - you are either a plagiarist and/or lazy as well as so incompetent to be unfit to read your own link and operate a calendar at the same time.
15. Foolican - a good question. Global warming is nothing more than generation and exporting energies onto someone else after this energy accumulates a wide variety of material, like snow or dust. Thus, the wide range of American stinkers who can't even take a temperature is only the tip of the melting iceberg of what we easily see in the planetary ecosystem.
16. Dan Locke also failed to back it up with any real data.
17. Geoff Gale use of "bot" is refreshing only due to wasting less readers' time.
18. William F. Naegele must realize that Allah has some involvement for leaving hummus crumbs toward 45% correct volcano predictions in global warming.

20. Badger Jer - "When will we see an actual test that supports that global warming is a man-made phenomenon? ". Still doing oxycontin with LABI Limbaugh.
21. arrowsmith1 - "The environmental movement is essentially exclusionary, and functions as a 'Hate' Science Rights Commission". So it's my fault that you failed to study hard, keep up with your education, put up with brain damage from employers like you, unable to steal my data in plain site, and now teach little girls to cry and scream.

24. CAG-15 - friends or therapists?
25. Todd Waugh - it would be a better argument to include a chocolate cake in the asteroid belt while picking the nit in weather history. This royal gene pool traces it's lineage to extremist Jesus and accounts for their ability to diagnose illnesses in their employees and spouses with only their x-ray vision. But I did and it has, "Too bad nobody told the Chinese there was going to be an earthquake. I'd say that would have saved a lot of lives"
26. Eric Sylvester - not enough oxycontin.
27. allene - a hero for our times. In lieu of peer reviewed publishing, posting of outrageous predictions in blogs like American Thinker provide a much wider audience of witnesses.
28. Aaron Nafthali - just what part of 45% correct volcano predictions, posted here and easily checked by anyone not addicted to porn, is a pseudo - science? Hint hint hint, I get no complaints with those with super computers
29. C. Ackers - so sad.
30. Earl E - so without people like me, this place would be a Garden of Eden.
31. Jarhead68 - and before computers there were no models! We are lucky you are a Marine. So 3 days in the future is not - "predict the present" and the models failed. Game, set, match. You are off the wall". You couldn't even predict me predicting vast forces in the planetary ecosystem.
32. Cluebat from Exodar - try a different website.
33. Tom from Trollhammer - "How these people can "predict" what is going to happen 'n' cycles out, with any certainty at all, is beyond me". Try hitting the search engine for volcanoes to see my dust.
34. Fecal McStool - honesty! Are you the one who wrote the "Birth of Advertising" and "US Senator Evil Inhofe's recipes on eating children, women, Native Americans, African Americans, and the vegetable - Disabled Americans in respirator"?
35. Zeb - avoid the yellow snow.
36. Clunking Fist - Steven Milloy will lie and claim to give you $500,000 for "Solar flares causes gloabl warming?".
37. Tom from Trollhammer - I just predicted 9 of 10 active volcanoes for the week from the components and products of our global warming that could easily be in the thousands of atomic bombs of power. But, not doing homework nor avoiding T-Rex Tillerson's fat, white, male x-ray vision - "How many nuclear weapon detonations would it take to kill the planet? This is far worse than CO2 emissions, don't you think?".
38. sc schmidt - another hero for our time.
39. Tom Trollhammer - More duh! Always a bad idea to cite Evil Inhofe's star of a major Senate hearing, Michael Crichton, without including the compulsory Vikings and Little Ice Age. Still predicting nothing but extra paychecks from ExxonMobil. 45% correct volcano predictions say that you shouldn't be speaking for anyone around a volcano or computer. That is - "You need to do some more diggging ... Even if we wanted to, we can't cork a volcano ... This is just worn out old Soviet propaganda and Communist agitprop garbage that has filtered down to the uninformed".

Sure are a lot of medical doctors on that list....

I think I'll setup an appointement with my GP and ask him about climatology, quantum mechanics, astrophysics... Heck, why should anyone go to college when you can get all that knowledge for a $20 copay?
Think people, this list can't be true.

Apparently you seem to think that saying active volcanoes will continue to be active is predictive. You also missed that 45% accurate is worse than flipping a coin, making it insignificant. It is not even the mean plus the standard deviation -which would be interesting. You don't fool me.

You also seem to imply that we have control over volcanoes.

Moronic to be sure.

Global warming is a complete farce. I notice you neglected Michael Creighton's work on the same subject, rather preferring to inflate your own volcanic ego.

Just remember, Saint Al Gore is no scientist, and refuses to debate any of this. With good reason too -he is a global snake oil salesman.

There is a high correlation between this "movement" and the Volks movement a century ago. (See "The Crisis of German Ideology").

You did not address that the climate change modeling software cannot predict weather patterns from known historical data. It has fallen flat and been recanted by the originators.

Yet, I am to believe because you and Al Gore that we should trust this ciruclar logic -the model proving itself.. is science?

It is an excuse to fleece the public and control the masses.

Go back to your hookah, man.

You would not know science if it bit you in the buns.

I notice you stayed away from my book citations. Here is another one -for the public mind and not the scientific mind, so it should be at a level most can handle.

In James Gliek's "Chaos" the boys over at NCAR were intrigued by models they had. Albeit simple ones.

Oh, but wait for it. With all their massive computers, they still could not predict much, and still cannot.

Yet you tell me that we'll be dead in 10 years or whatever.

Paul Erlich said the same thing, so did Ted Dansen, Whoopi Goldberg and a host of other fruits and nuts. Rachel Carson has caused the deaths of millions with her DDT lies.

I should have been dead about 15 times over for all the predictions that hit the press since the first Earth Day (I was alive then too).

Guess what?

ALL, not one or two, ALL of them have not come to pass. It is just the same excuse with a different object in order to try to enforce control and make money.

It is the same, goo brained, socialist garbage I've heard all my life from idiots who are arrogant enough they think they can make themselves feel better by being tyrants to the rest of us, and hide the fact they are making money in the process.

Just look at the Senate hearings -the same clown college that passed the laws preventing drilling are upset that we can't so something about oil prices.

Of course, they leave out that Google, and other MountainView CA firms -them big ole dotcommers -have a higher profit margin than Exxon.

Dang, never would have guessed, huh?

Global Warming is junk science, and your standing on your self perpetuation of a lie is not science. It is rhetoric and agitprop.

-Tom

The article above promised that the NPC would release a list of 32,000 names. It hasn't so far. Anyone able to explain why not?

Golly gosh Little Tommy and all your familiars,

I hope you know that your environmental racism is largely legal. But, your racketeering with insider information is still quite illegal.

hugs and kisses,

Ozonator

Heck of a job Brownie, your 32,000 mock scientists couldn't even predict a sunburn. However,my CME prediction was correct. Allah compels me to tell more truth, I had a space ship with a death ray, I have a time machine, I am the Chuck Norris of geology and astrophysics, and/or the Ozonator's planetary ecology is the rocket science of global warming. One would be mistaken to think a correctly predicted blob of plasma would be considered a part of global warming by American extremists.

For example, "HOT COMET: On May 23rd, a comet plunged toward the sun, overheated, and disintegrated ... In the movie, the passage of the comet seems to trigger a coronal mass ejection (CME): diagram. This is almost certainly a coincidence. The comet was at least a million kilometers above the surface of the sun at the time and there is no known mechanism for a comet to trigger a magnetic explosion across such a gulf" ("What's up in Space"; Dr. Tony Phillips; spaceweather.com, 5/25/08).

Not enough coins in the world to predict this by chance, "Holy Moeller! Golly Gale! ... "... A. Our Ozonator's Preamble for Survival (OOPS) ... 1. ... Solar wind and CMEs should be of the man-made varieties on both sides of the Sun with enough significant energies for minimal CMEs and x-ray type flares of X2+ ... 2. ... models developed for components of global warming ... from ExxonMobil ..." ("GBRWE 5/18 - 24/08's Extreme Planetary Warnings for Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Solar/Terrestrial Flares from Human Activities"; your Ozonator, Supplemental; GBRWE 5/18 - 24/08, 5/17/08). Posted by: Ozonator | May 19, 2008 07:03 PM".

With no CMEs predicted, "Prepared jointly by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center and the U.S. Air Force ... on 21 May 2008 ... IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be very low" ("Joint USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity 21 May 2008"; Space Environment Center, NOAA; STATUS REPORT; spaceref.com, 5/21/08).

Thus, only are American extremists have the superior genetic material to use our star's death rays while keeping all others in the dark. "RUSH ... They've mapped the sun ... and they know when these things happen ... when we start talking about global warming and the universe ... the power in the sun ... a giant, never-ending nuclear explosion ... nobody's going to give you money to fund your research grant based on that" ("Global Warming: The Power of the Sun"; Mr. Rush Limbaugh, The Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity Extremist Republican and Christian and other corporate whore media outlets; Palm Beach NAMBLA; rushlimbaugh.com, 12/14/06). "RUSH ... Roy Spencer ... a scientist who does not believe in the whole crisis of manmade global warming ... scientists who do supposedly support the whole concept of manmade global warming ... can never be disproved ... CALLER ... caused by the sun, not by man. ... RUSH: That's actually a good point. I wish I would have asked him about the sun ... it's the one thing that these people leave out of global warming. Never, ever do they discuss the primary source of heat and all energy on this planet, and that's the sun" ("Facts, Science Smash the Global Warming Myth"; Mr. Rush Limbaugh, The Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity Extremist Republican and Christian and other corporate whore media outlets; Palm Beach NAMBLA waterboy; rushlimbaugh.com, 2/28/07). "

The ozonator's rhetoric is proof of his mindset. He is a left wing extremist who, like most left wing extremists, possesses far less than half a brain. Best to ignore his mindless posts.

Dear Wright penguin wing;

I am shocked shocked that a representative of an extremist Republican and Christian would consider that a CME or volcano chunk of global warming is a mindset like New Jersey as a way to ignore my post! Sadly, your predicted rope burn is not even close to a sunburn as an effortless scientific prediction even by Bush administration appointees' natural cycle of currently burning files at the EPA. Of all the the 32,000 major mockers of science, it is you who is so weak to be tossed off the ice flow from the other emperors. You dittoheads don't seem to recall that anything but a "conservative" is an extremists - from any winger to crossing guards to oxycontin/steroid supplier.

You are not totally without merit. The Vulcan mind meld or virgin sacrifice must have worked to determine my MRE making you eligible for EPA/NOAA program manager material.
