August 4, 2006 It's a shondaIn Yiddish something that's pitifully shameful is a shonda. And this morning I am ashamed of Abe Foxman (again) and Martin Peretz, publisher of The New Republic. Yesterday the ADL took out a half page ad in the conservative New York Sun thanking the President and eight senators for their bi—partisan support of Israel. Which Senators did the ADL thank? Biden, Clinton, Durbin, Kerry, Lieberman, Pelosi and Schumer. And why post this in the Sun? Is it a message to conservatives that ADL is still shilling for the Democrats? If it isn't it why couldn't the ADL find a single Republican Senator to thank? It's the Republicans that have been doing the hard work, while the people ADL thanks are largely showboating, pandering and trying to tie the President's hands at every turn. Marty Peretz knows that Israel would be in far greater danger with the kind of Democrats the ADL praises in charge.. That's why this Q&A with Hugh Hewitt, in which he cannot bring himself to say what he certainly knows, is also a shonda.
Clarice Feldman 8 4 06 Update: 8 08 08 10:05 AM PDT In response to a complaint, Abe Foxman sent me copies of other ads in other papers which are different. In those others, the Republicans he smooches include Chuck Hagel. |
