April 5, 2006 "The Unit"Since I have posted several items here about CBS's The Unit and its "inspiration," the career of retired Command Sgt. Maj. Eric Haney, I feel duty bound to post the following. On March 26, Haney gave an interview with the Los Angeles Daily News in which he said:
Meantime, an acquaintance of mine, L.H. Burruss, an original member of Delta Force, informs me that Haney's claim that he was a founding member of that unit is bogus. He says that Haney joined 13 months after it was formed. And, he says that Haney was never a Sgt. Major in Delta Force. (Thanks to L.H.B. for passing this on & my salute to you.) Based on all this, if any of you want to stop watching The Unit, that's fine by me. John B. Dwyer 4 5 06 Joe Crowley adds: Last night "The Unit" was assigned to assassinate a Spanish politician. The assignment was called off at the last minute but it was too late. The way that looks to civilians both here and abroad is that our government acts as/condones the assassination of whoever we think will get in our way politically.
