September 17, 2005 James Baker, would-be envoyLet's not forget James Baker was one of the two people Kerry wanted to appoint as special Middle East envoy (the other was Jimmy Carter, friend of dictators, etc.): Barghouti was head of the terrorist Tanzim and al Aksa Martyrs Brigades elements of Yasser Arafat's Fatah organization. Baker himself is of course not only a Bush envoy, but the former Secretary of State. What a disgrace. (Hat tip: Little Green Footballs) More: "There is now. . . . in an Israeli prison a man named Marwan Barghouti, who is one of the young guard of Palestinians," Baker told King last night, speaking about the post—Yasser Arafat era. "And if the Palestinians are going to make this work against the really hard—line elements, the Islamists and some of the people of Hamas, they're going to have to have a coalition of the young guard and the old guard." Baker neglects to mention Barghouti's key role in the murder of Israelis and his continuing calls for violence. Ed Lasky 11 16 04 |
