July 20, 2008 Obama's Civilian National Security ForceBy Lee CarySenator Obama was nearly 17 minutes into his July 2 speech (yet another one where naming Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was required) in Colorado Springs, Colorado when he deviated from his pre-released script and performed without the teleprompter net saying,
The immediate context for that amazing statement was a preview of parts of his plan to vastly expand community service opportunities for Americans of nearly all ages. He said,
The range of his community service initiatives was outlined in an earlier American Thinker article. In his campaign document entitled "The Blueprint for Change: Barack Obama's Plan For America," Obama's "Service" section runs a close second to "Education" in complexity. But, with his Colorado Springs' statement, it grabbed first place in its projected costs to taxpayers. Obama did the cost projection himself. He plans to double the Peace Corps' budget by 2011, and expand AmeriCorps, USA Freedom Corps, VISTA, YouthBuild Program, and the Senior Corps. Plus, he proposes to form a Classroom Corps, Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, Veterans Corps, Homeland Security Corps, Global Energy Corps, and a Green Jobs Corps. Here a corps - there a corps - everywhere a corps corps. So it made sense in Colorado Springs when he said his call to community service "will be a central cause of my presidency." He couldn't be clearer in signaling his intentions, including a Social Investment Fund Network to link local non-profits with the federal government. The entire plan is breathtaking in its scope. But it does not, as at least one internet writer has suggested, portend a "giant police force." It would be easier to rebut if it did. As it is, it's silly stuff born of naively fanciful dreams. Senator Obama aims to tap into the already active volunteerism of millions of Americans and recruit them to become cogs in a gigantic government machine grinding out his social re-engineering agenda. It's Orwellian-like, with a novice social activist's mentality at the helm. In his speech he said,
Has he? Well, given his absence of noteworthy community organizational achievements, perhaps he might have done more listening to the "cynics" for constructive criticism. It seems clear that he meant to say, in effect, that the security of the nation is as dependent on its unarmed community service providers as it is on its armed military personnel. Even the nomenclature "corps," as in Peace Corps, carries a martial connotation as does the name, Salvation Army. His point: national security begins with civilians. It's a message like the one America's home front heard throughout World War II. Except in his case, he means to marshal volunteers for social service and economic equality while saving the environment.
That is, of course, true. But ultimate national security requires someone to carry, and, if necessary, discharge a deadly weapon with intent to kill. This is something teachers, nurses and after-school workers are typically unaccustomed to doing as part of their service obligations. Voters haven't paid much attention to his "Service" plan because the old news media has ignored it. That will likely continue, even though Obama attached an approximate price tag to it in Colorado Springs. When Obama said that the "civilian national security force" would be just as "well-funded" as the Armed Forces, he stepped squarely into the giant sandbox and played with the big numbers. As the late Carl Sagan said, "billions and billions" of dollars. Here's how. The FY 2008 Department of Defense (DoD) budget is about $482 billion. Obama has announced his intentions to cut "tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending," including $9 billion per month spent in Iraq and expenditures for the missile defense system, while increasing the force size of the Army and Marine Corps. Let's imagine "tens of billions" in cuts eventually adds up to a whopping $150 billion. That would be a near one-third cut in defense spending, taking the DoD budget down to $332 billion. Even in such an extreme case of DoD budget reduction, for his "civilian national security force" to be "just as well-funded" would mean funding his community service initiatives at an equivalent $332 billion. Consequently, another $332 billion in addition to the Pentagon's reduced budget of $332 billion equals a net increase of $182 billion in the annual federal budget, assuming we sponge-up the already existing expenditures for the relatively meager, by comparison, existing service programs he plans to expand. That's $182,000,000,000 in new federal monies, and that means higher taxes. In his entire life, Senator Obama has never managed an organization larger than a Senate staff, or that of a law school publication. And, he's never operated a for-profit business or been responsible for any profit center within one. So, while words matter to Senator Obama, it's not clear if math means anything to him at all.

If a church member delivers a state paid for meal on wheels, can he bless the food?

Lee Cary - this was a very well written piece. But. I'm not buying it. However, this is the FIRST article I have read that has reasoning behind it and quite a bit of thought thrown into it. For that, at least I thank you.
However, seeing that Barack is a Marxist-Communist that Mark and Engles would be proud of, either scenario whether it be Baracks's Civilian Private Army or some glorious play-pen for money grubbing government employees is unacceptable.
Our rebuttal (if you can call it that):

It's known as serfdom... falls under the umbrella of socialism/communism. No doubt the brain dead masses will fall for this crock of deception. Only after they're told that they are being deployed to some other state or country for servitude (hard labor) will the reality that they have been duped become evident. Yet another very good reason to NOT vote Democratic in 2008. One should always remember to "Get the Facts before the Facts Get You".

Ultimately Obama wants to denigrate the American people and rob them of their ability to offer creative solutions to problems they see. He hasn't devoted much of his life to learning about America and white-toast Americans. He has no idea that his top-down approach to the world could rob America of its spirit and its charity. He wants to create a massive bureaucracy to be named the Barack Obama Perfect World Plan. I don't know what this guy smoked when he was young, but it's pretty obvious that the effects haven't worn off.

I submit that what this is about is dilution of the honor and scant benefits paid to military veterans. The peace-creep side really hates veterans and deeply resents the practice of veterans' preference in government employment.
Why hate veterans? We must go back to the days of shame, the Vietnam era, to understand this. Back in the days when cowardice was the handmaiden of treason, millions of our worst generation lied, cheated and connived so that their neighbors would face hardship and danger in their places.
So it was that they chanted the names of enemy leaders and waived enemy battle flags as a cover for their iniquity.
Now the aging peace-creeps and their progeny would like to shoulder military service aside as just another form of "national service," as though teaching or social work were the equivalent of bearing arms for one's country.

Obama's suggestion for a Civilian National Security Force is frightening. He makes it sound good but it's also going to entail children going to school and reporting what they overheard their parents discussing the night before, neighbors are going to be reporting on neighbors, friends are going to be reporting on friends, etc., etc. This is dangerous territory for the United States of America. In other words it will be another police force similar to Hitler's SS troops. If this is what America wants, then that will be the end of my country as we know it. Think twice before you pull that lever for Obama the mad man.

Snooper:
Thank you for commenting on this article. And, for reading the American Thinker.
I agree that "either scenario" is unacceptable, or should be to those who cherish the nature of American freedom. I believe that in our criticism of Senator Obama we need to target his socialist leaning notions (some leaning to the extent of falling). Since I perceive him as essentially a pacifist, a very dangerous sentiment for a U.S. president, I think the suggestion that he was referring to a brown-shirted corps like that employed in 1930's Germany may do more damage to those who oppose Obama than to him. Let me explain myself.
Senator Obama lacks a highly-disciplined mind. He is what others once wrongly accused Reagan of being, a script-reader. When Reagan went off script, memorable words like "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" came out. When Obama deviates from his text, silly and naive hyperbole escapes. But, as with Reagan, it shows his true emotion.
Obama is a soft social engineer with a law degree. I find this sufficiently dangerous to the job he wants. To accuse him of intending to sanction, essentially, a national gang erodes the general credibility of his opposition. American may vote him into office, but I don't for a moment believe we'd tolerate anything like the militaristic interpretation of his language. I forget who said it, and the exact quote, but a well-meaning fool with power can do more damage than a bad man with evil intent. Obama is the former.
He represents, by my lights, a more pervasive danger captured, in part, by Mark Twain in this quote: "The mania for giving the Government power to meddle with the private affairs of cities or citizens is likely to cause endless trouble, through the rivaly of schools and creeds that are anxious to obtain official recognition, and there is great danger that our people will lose our independence of thought and action which is the cause of much of our greatness, and sink into the helplessness of the Frenchman or German who expects his government to feed him when hungry, clothe him when naked, to prescribe when his child may be born and when he may die, and, in fine, to regulate every act of humanity from the cradle to the tomb, including the manner in which he may seek future admission to paradise."
Thanks again for being an AT reader. I read your link and enjoyed doing so.

What's Obama want to call his new "civilian national security force"? Perhaps he could revive the name "Tom Tom Macoots". It's been available ever since Papa Doc Duvalier passed.
He could try "Crips" or "Bloods", but I think those names are already taken by other "civilian organizations". No doubt, there'll be plenty of crossover personnel between the CNSF from those two existing "organizations" though.
It's unbelievable that Obama and his lunatic advisors could even entertain such an awful idea without seeing how it would just morph into a fascist crime wave overnight. What an idiot.

Anna,
I understand why you would write, "This is dangerous territory for the United States of America. In other words it will be another police force similar to Hitler's SS troops."
It is dangerous territory, but not so much following the comparison you make.
There are, roughly, 800,000 law enforcement officers already in the U.S., and thank God for them. So we already have a "civilian national defense force."
The dangerous terrority you, correctly I believe, perceive is a national leader who focuses on becoming the country's grand community organizer and minimizes all external threats. "Mad," no. "Immaturely naive," definately. Mad is easier to counter. Immaturely naive is letting your six year old drive on the interstate where people can die.

Obama may be planning such a sandbox, but when he says "we cannot continue to rely only on our military to achieve our national security goals, we've got to have a civilian national security force, just as strong, just as powerful, just as well funded..." I think he means just that. I do no believe this has anything to do with "public service" goals.
Obama is pushing hard for the U.N.'s Millennium Goal. His Senate Bill 2433 commits us to achieving the Millennium Goal in full. The UNMG will forbid the development of weaponry, will place a worldwide freeze on our military and will monitor our 2nd Amendment Rights (among other things).
It's possible that Obama's national civilian security force will enforce the U.N.'s strangle-hold on America and all the Free World.

Senator and former community organizer Obama learned his politics from hard core Communists. What people learn has more to do with what they believe than what they say for political purposes or reports written for them by staff.
When he talks about organizing the country, he really means reorganizing everything, not just what he thinks voters want. His economic plan is to increase taxes, cut military expense and spend the money on government health care and his civilian army and other assorted government programs.
Skeptics must ask what does a civilian army of supposed do-gooders or patronage army have to do with giving voters a better life? This function is already being performed by volunteers and charities, the Thousand Points Of Light. The answer of course is what Communists teach; that the government must control most decisions made by citizens. And Obama wants to control that government, not the goernment we now have. Beware of anyone that tells you they care more about your future than their own.

"just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded...."
In my part of the world we call these people "paramilitaries". They are often, but not always, NGO´s. They operate with Govt. approval!
They start off being second responders at fires, accidents, etc and lo and behold, in a trice, become vigilantes!
Will Obama´s force wear uniforms a la New Yorker Michelle; carry lethal or non-lethal weapons; have arresting powers; be paid or volunteer?
And what if it´s a club the b-ballers in the Chicago Loop and in Harlem don´t want to join?
Hammer him on this, John McCain!

To Anna:
You really must read Obama's education plan, it is a plan that covers from birth to the graduation. As soon as an infant is born, it will go into national child care (no doubt provided by one of the community service corps). Then, read George Orwell's 1984, it will all be clear.

The obamassiah wants to have a force which is loyal to him alone; and the military would not be. I'm quite sure that hussein will try to make his "cnsf" sound like some benign social-work group - but I doubt that it would take very long before "selected" members of his little band of enthusiastic idiots found themselves undergoing quasi-military training (purely for security and self-defense, of course). Additionally, it is probably safe to suppose that the majority of this force would be recruited from the inner cities (job creation, don't you know) and would, therefore, be constituted mainly of minorities. And I doubt that it would be very long before these groups would be used in primarily white areas to "enforce equality".
The obamassiah is not your friend - but he is only a puppet; and is powerless without his puppetmaster(s). It is they who control hussein and want to ultimately control you.

Some of the commenters have missed an important fact in this debate - the fanatical intolerance the Messiah and His disciples display towards any criticism whatsoever.
Combine that with the Messiah's call for the formation of powerful, well-funded "civilian national security force" with its ill-defined authority and vague goals, and you have the real possibility of something truly frightening in American history.

Regarding all this volunteerism that BO will be having everyone in America perform:
While everyone is volunteering (or working for a nominal government wage such as in the Peace Corp, VISTA, etc.), who is going to be doing the real work that results in paying taxes that will be used to fund Obama's "excellent adventure?"
Right now a lot of people volunteer a few hours per week, month, year, whatever, because it provides them an alternative to the structure of the job they are doing on a day-in/day-out basis or, in the case of retirees, gives them a time, place, and reason to be somewhere doing something that is presumably positive. In either case, the volunteer is doing it VOLUNTARILY and gets a benefit, if not monetary, then in better mental and/or physical health.
You start mixing in the hurdles that are always present in a federal government bureaucracy (STRUCTURE, to be sure, but also waste, mismanagement, the few who benefit vs. the many who do not) and see how few will want to volunteer under those conditions. That means BO will have to coerce people into volunteering. That ceases to become volunteerism and results in something more like serfdom or dare I say it, slavery.
That brings me back to my original point -- under Obama's plan of raising taxes to fund all of these new or expanded programs, people will be required to work for pay more hours per week just to stay even, not fewer. Will people keep volunteering the same or more hours if they have to work more hours for pay? By adding volunteerism and reducing hours worked for pay, will they gladly slide backward down the economic ladder, so grateful are they to have an opportunity to participate in BO's scheme of cosmic social justice? Or will they do the increased work and volunteerism and pass up leisure or do with less sleep? Even BO can't change the fact that there are only 168 hours in a week. Someone needs to ask him how he is going to get the work/volunteerism equation to pan out? I know. He'll use that new fuzzy math where it's OK to say 2+2 = 5, if that's what it takes to make you feel good about yourself.

Excellent article. That said, as someone who tends to view current affairs with an eye toward history --I continue to be amazed how people can actually consider Obama as anything more than a second class hack. We are living in a 1936-38 era that will be lead by an inept Wilson (aka America's first dictator). Cheers.

With obama in charge, America will finally cast off the crippled vestiges of its founding principles and become the USSR MkII! I'm sure it's only a matter of time until we see the 'Obama/Democrat Youth' clubs reprogramming children en masse, on top of the national reorganizing and those perpetual 'five year plans'...
Is it not amusing that the one country who has a compulsory 'civilian security forces' is north korea? Is it also amusing that north korea regards its populace as 'state assets'?
Move over kim jong il, there's new authoritarian regime in town!

Democrat run Allentown, Pa, is a shameful, decrepit, failed city-state. The organized criminal gang violence rivals Sadr City. It is a social cesspool under narco-terrorist siege. The local paper gives a tragic body count on a regular basis. Enlightened liberal 'restorative justice' and its theraputic group hugs for criminal dirt bags as victims of a racist society, has precipitated an anarchistic bloodbath. Innocents caught in the crossfire die or are permanently disabled. (The emergency rooms at local hospitals have ex-military trauma surgeons on staff.) Its all hailed as a 'Progressive Social Experiment' by clueless academic deep thinkers...(we've got to iron out just a few minor theoretical kinks we might have overlooked.) A'town needs Wyatt Earp, not Dr. Phil!
This was enabled by the faux racial sensitivity of Marxist inspired and trained 'Community Agitators...uh...Organizers', who envision a coming Utopia, run by them on disproven, crackpot theories. Their political ambitions are accomplished by infiltration and total regime change in blue state urban areas...the most vulnerable to their predatory delusional 'feel good' garbage. Pathetic Chicago has fallen to their Red flag.
They mean well, their intentions are good, but 44 years and trillions of tax dollars later, after LBJ's failed Great Society initiatives...conditions worsened in welfare dependent inner cities, from all that free money and fake compassion, while, ironically, black prosperity grew into a large stable economic middle class from their own initiatives as free American citizens. One can game the system from many different directions. Meet my lovely quiet neighbors!
Barack and his Obamazombies couldn't run a one-car funeral, let alone a nation. His real 'accomplishments' in Chicago are zero. He's been resume building on his smooth charming charisma. His ideas are those of a simplistic bush league amateur...derived from old Maoist propanganda posters. They're preached semi-eloquently to the credulous thralls of dumbed down public education...reading from scripts prepared by the ACLU, Media Matters, the ghost of Che Guevara, Rev. Wright and Bill Ayres. His ideological gurus and mentors.
The coolest black heroes are not hip-hop stars. The coolest are Dr. Condi Rice, Juan Williams, Clarence Page, Dr.Bill Cosby,
Muhammad Ali, Dr. King, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Jerry Rice, Tiki Barber et al. Who are biologically pigmented dark by nature. The fact that white people admire them is the cultural kiss of death to underachieving losers in the hood.
I saw a great photo of a very serious, combat ready F-15 Eagle driver strapped in his cockpit, who just happened to be a black man...now THAT is totally cool! My kind of volunteer civilian security force!

I agree with Mr.Daudi. An intolerant despotic man like Obama and his robotic followers would try to rob Americans of the most basic freedoms: thought and speech. In Cuba, Castro organized the "neighborhood forces" in order to spy on all citizens and turn in anyone who opposed the government. It is a form of servitude that destroys human dignity. Is Obama capable of this? He definetly has been influenced by Marxist theory and; George Soros and his radical friends wish Marxism for our country. The question is: Will the American people allow it?
Posted by: Elvira | July 20, 2008 02:16 PM
Obama proposed a program that would be as well funded as the armed services. He did not say it would be necessary to have a service program funded at exactly the same dollar amount as the armed services. I don't know if this is an intentional distortion or a mark of, as you might put it, a highly undisciplined mind, but it is quite clear that two organizations can both be well funded yet still spend hugely different amounts. The fire department in my parent's home town is well funded. The fire department of Chicago is also well funded. The two do not have to spend exactly the same amount to pass the threshold of well funded. This distortion does quite a bit to sap credibility out of your argument, which otherwise might be rather strong. Glad you spent so much time helping people out in Illinois, regardless.
Posted by: g50 | July 20, 2008 06:30 PM
One more thing. I live in Chicago, and am amazed when I read people bashing my town, as I see in some of the comments about Obama and his home city. Um, excuse me, but Chicago is one of the most capitalist places on earth. Living here rocks. You can purchase anything you want to your exact specification. Everyone is working and the culture thrives. Every major company on earth has a substantial presence here. The political leadership goes way out of its way to make our city good for business. If there are failing public schools, that's probably because the students themselves are bad students with issues of their own. The good schools are extremely good and you can confirm with the test scores, graduation rates, and choice of education. There may be gang violence, but mainly in isolated and poor pockets. Why you would want to go to those places is beyond me. In conclusion, Chicago is a testament to how awesome capitalism is, and when I see people of the more conservative persuasion talking about what they don't know, I think "sometimes, people can be pretty dumb."

"Elvira" (the song's running through my head) observed: "In Cuba, Castro organized the "neighborhood forces" in order to spy on all citizens and turn in anyone who opposed the government."
Indeed, Madam. Does the name "Juan Miguel Gonzalez-Quintana" ring a bell? He's little Elian's father---and he was Papa Fidel's "watcher" in his small Cuban village. His job description was *precisely* what you've observed. (BTW---did anyone notice that he didn't raise any ruckus until Castro called him in and instructed him so to do?)

I heard BHO say on some interview. Umm, umm we organized tennant groups. And we registered people to vote, set up food drives. I was paraphrasing there. I don,t remember the exact words. but I know he mentioned registering voters.
Is it just a coincident that election officials estimate. there are roughly 80,000 illegal immigrants registered to vote in Chicago?

You all worry too much. I have been alive for countless presidents and none have really affected much at all. Reagan did good by kicking the empty shell of the USSR apart and Johnson did bad with his war on poverty which screwed up the poor worse than they were but other than that? W is good because he kept the Islamo's from attacking us again since 9-11. His old man was fair. FDR was a true socialist but that was long ago. Carter was such a screwy screw-up but he gave us Reagan (wasn't it a land-slide? He should have won that dopey "peace prize" for that!!!). Clinton was all caught up in Clinton and didn't have time to screw anything or anyone other and Monica (and a few others, I am sure).
So let's say Obama does get in there...so what? Just because he says he wants this and that, so what? The dems are so screwed up that I am sure they will lose the House and Senate in 2010 and then what? This could be a great opportunity for the right-wing in this country. We own the oil issue; this one won't go away and the dems simply will not drill for oil anywhere! They are going to raise taxes when we are suffering under these oil prices??!! Fat chance. Al Gore is out there pontificating about global warming baloney telling us we'd better get used to these crazy high oil prices while his fat limos are sitting there idling and eating...oil!!!??? Obama doesn't have a clue about how deadly thse Islamo's are but he will soon find out; let those killers out of Gitmo and watch how fast they strap the bombs on the blow things (and folks) up. He's is going to be a president with those guys running free?? I don't think so. And he wants volunteers for some crazy left-wing socialist causes??? He will get the fat old guys with thin or balding heads and poney tails, the old hippies, along with their fat old wives, big deal.
My advise? Don't lose too much sleep over these dopey Obamaism's. Look for opportunities and take them. Organize, start websites, write letters to your congress men/women, fight. Obama could well be our next Carter. Fun times are here again...sharpen your knives and keep your powder dry (both figures of speech).

"We cannot continue to rely on our military..." That must inspire confidence among our troops, as must Obama's "I will's" where our national defence is concerned: "I WILL cut investments in unproven(?) missile defense systems," "I WILL not weaponize space," "I WILL slow development of future combat systems," "I WILL not develop new nuclear weapons," Obama will, in effect, unilaterally disarm, even though Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela and others are ramping up their defences -and offences- as fast as they can. (Incidentally, doesn't Congress have a say in any of this? Last I checked we still have a legislative as well as an executive branch of government).
Will the civilian national security force truly be voluntary, while being just as well funded as the military? "All...will be asked to serve." Michelle Obama at UCLA declared that Barack is going to DEMAND that you shed your cynicism, that you put down your division, that you come out of your isolation....Barack Obama will REQUIRE you to work... Barack will NEVER ALLOW you to go back to your lives a usual."
As for us serving the government (because that's what it boils down to), isn't it the government which is supposed to be serving us, within the limited constaints of the founding documents?

To Zbigniew Mazurak, you asked "Maggie, you said that the UN would prohibit the development of weaponry and "freeze the US military". What did you mean by that? The demobilisation of the US military? Its withdrawal from all foreign countries? Something else?"
Thank you for asking!
The following are quotes directly from the UN Millennium Goal forum notes. It's a very long and tedious document. Much of it lays out a very virtuous goal to eradicate poverty, prostitution of children, crimes against women, etc.
However, there are also these huge issues of globalization, with the U.N. at the head:
Keep in mind that these numbers are not in any kind of sequence but perhaps they will help you locate the information for yourself within the document:
4. To initiate a worldwide freeze on armed forces and a 25 per cent cut in production and export of major weapons and small arms, and to that end to adopt an international code of conduct on arms exports, as the beginning of worldwide build-down of conventional forces.
6. To establish a commission at the United Nations to devise ways of stopping the technological development of new and more advanced weapons that create new imbalances in global power relationships.
8. To expand the United Nations arms register in order to show the production and sale of small arms and light weapons.
5. To move towards democratic political control of the global economy so that it may serve our vision.
7. To reform the international financial institutions (IFIs) and the World Trade Organization to ensure greater transparency and democracy and to support the establishment of a consultative mechanism with civil society. To ensure that IFIs provide capital for sustainable development to vulnerable people. Sustainable funds could be raised through a currency transfer tax, which could also help to reduce currency speculation, and a tax on the rental value of land and natural resources.
2. To support the development of a concept of globalization
4. Stop imposing economic sanctions, which deprive people of their basic economic, social and environmental rights and which make their struggle for survival, as well as for civil and political rights, more difficult.

When I read an article such as this, and more importantly the comments associated with it, I am comforted that others see the same things I see.
I just hope that somehow the electorate sees it before this fellow gets elected.

An excellent article by this author and wonderful additional explanation in Comments section.
I have one problem though. That Obama is being underestimated. To call him "naive" or a "fool" - well, those words might describe us before long.
Look at the man's tactics. Are they naive and foolish? Or are they evil? I say liars and manipulators are evil. So are people who think they're above the law. He's all of that.
I'm no fan of Hillary, but look how he managed to get the "nomination." That little display of "power" should set off the alarm bells. I sure hope someone other than Michelle Malkin is following his pals at ACORN and their fraudulent voter registration efforts. He's going to take this election any way he can.
This man is capable of more evil than any of us wants to believe. And he has the Dem Party willing to help him along the way. Among them, those that are not fools are themselves corrupt.
Americans had better vote as many of them out of office as they can. Because with BO as president, Dem majorities in both houses of Congress and a liberal Supreme Court - America will become but a fond memory and a nightmare will have replaced her.

My mother said when she was growing up in Germany, born in 1919, they called the members of this type of organization "brown shirts". I think we all know who they pledge their allegiance to in Germany.
She and her parents left to live in Scotland shortly before the "brown shirts" and their leader, Hitler, came to fruition.

Maggie! Great blog...it is now in my bank of favorites.
The biggest danger to world peace is pacificism. Naive credulous pacifists are easily exploited by evil clever despots. I remember Sean Penn and all those caring sharing hippie weenies volunteering as human shields for Saddam's kindergartens and pediatric clinics, during the pre-war build up, and his meanie goons deploying them in busses to surround power plants and missile bases. They threw a hissy fit and stomped their way home.
Pennsylvania Quakers refused to arm pioneer settlers out on the frontier who were being massacred by marauding indians. That wouldn't be a 'friendly' gesture. However...they did conduct commerce with the murdering savages to show them their good intentions, and set a gentle civilized Christian example. The besieged farmers were justifiably outraged and petitioned Philadelphia.
Ben Franklin bitterly complained to the Quaker Synod in London about this obscenity, and the leadership in Philly was immediately sacked and recalled. The green light was given to form armed militias ASAP and fight back. A grateful Uncle Ben complied. These events are the historic origins of our successful armed revolt against a tyrant, and our sacred Second Amendment rights.
A frustrated colonial governor in 17th century Virginia lamented in a letter how disturbing it was to rule over a peasant population of angry indebted inebriates armed to the teeth.
Hey! We the People! Heed the words of Chuck Heston! United 93! Let's roll!

As a public school teacher, I agreed with only one item from this article. I should be allowed to carry my Glock into the classroom as part of the Homeland Security Civilian Task Force. :-)
The GOP should be shouting this from the roof tops. I swear, those that run the RNC are out of touch with the general population. They have no idea how to reach the public with a positive message for McCain or a negative message against Obama.
This and the treasonous acts of Queen Nancy and Harry "the Rat" Reid should be pounded into the consciousness of every American.

Ranger Joe. Thank you so much! I don't see a hyperlink here for you. Sounds like you have a webpage, though, and your name is familiar to me. Let me know.
You've mentioned some very important history here and as far as I'm concerned we should all be shouting Let's roll!! God Bless Tod Beamer and all the other victims and heroes on United 93.

Zbigniew, the words of the Millennium Goal Forum are this:
4. To initiate a worldwide freeze on armed forces...
They are not my words. I can only assume that it means what it says.

Jeanette! Member in good standing of the AT Peanut Gallery! Love your posts!
Thank you! I stand corrected. Including Justice Thomas on my hastily compiled list of true black heroes is a no-brainer. I was about to list the entire NY Giants defense, every 60's Mo-Town soul group, every jazz genius that ever swung or grooved in the 20th century, tap dancing wonders Sandman Sims and 'The Nicholas Brothers', the entire Marsalis family...I'd better stop. I could go on indefinitely. The icing on that cake would be George Washington Carver inventing PEANUT BUTTER! Yummzo! I humbly revere the entire black race for that fact alone!
The greatest compliment ever paid me was from my old black friend and mentor 'Sweets' who said..."Brother Joe...you're alright...your mama raised you right...you see a man as a man...I can work with you." He was right. I ate a bar of Ivory soap once back in the 50's for innocently uttering the 'N' word. The dirtiest of words. (Mom was a serious Irish- Catholic.)
Be well. Hold down Wyoming for us. I had the best steak of my life at the 'Proud Cut Saloon' in Cody and the best breakfast buffet ever at the 'Irma'! Ya gotta love a state with a town called 'Ten Sleep'. God Bless!

I believe this is a very will written article, but I'm still not convinced " . . . We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded [as the military]." means peaceful social programs.
As you point out it's still bad because how is he going to fund all this? If anyone has looked into the Inflation Tax at all http://inflationtax.blogspot.com they understand the more the government spends on a deficit, the more the value of the dollar drops. That means if Obama doesn't raise taxes, the dollar will crash under his spending burden.
Still--how can " . . . national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded [as the military]." mean a bunch of social workers?
I need to see this full speech for myself in context. Maybe when Youtube is no longer under maintenance. It looks like this is it, but it won't play at the moment http://youtube.com/watch?v=Df2p6867_pw

Zbigniew, I cannot interpret it. It just says what it says. However it is to be done, the U.N. is assuming they can encroach the sovereignty of other countries - unless we willingly give up sovereignty.

Interesting points raised about Obama's National Security Force...
I remember this speech and initially thought that expanding volunteerism with public dollars sounded like a good idea, it could assist the plethora of unemployed peoples or underemployed obtain jobs, give kids something to do, and absorb some of the effects of this on-the- brink-of-recession economy, but....
It is obvious to me that Obama is a politician who either just doesn't' think ideas through or doesn't give a damn about the effects. Like what kind of incentives would be offered, the huge bureaucracy this will create, and the oversight needed to maintain the largesse and offset corruption.
And then I read about Obama's strong commitment to expand the privatization of public housing that has occurred in Chicago. A failed policy and boondoggle to Ill taxpayers, which the management companies have admitted do not allow them to make profit while simultaneously allowing them to adequately manage and/or maintain these properties. So in essence Illinois's govt ended up funding slum lords of vast proportions who took the money and ran, leaving Chicago's working poor to live in absolute squalor (units with sewage coming out of kitchen drains, and rats running in the halls of these newly restored or completely rebuilt buildings). And Obama desire to expand this program on a national level, without any comment about how he would fix the problems like the ones encountered in Chicago, should serve as a wake-up call to how this civilian program will be carried out.
I have no doubt that Obama (as will other politicians since it is the nature of politics) will use this "civilian national security force" to just increase the profits of his cronies, while providing negligible benefit to those who need such programs in the first place. And I'm a bonafide Liberal.
Another point is that Obama does not talk about the civilian corps --Blackwater-- which had been used to help maintain law and order in NOLA after Katrina. His own personal use of Blackwater immediately came to mind when I heard this speech. I am also concerned about Obama's unwillingness to answer questions of the press, as evidenced during his Euro cruise.
However, I have a comment about the failure of the War on Poverty, though, being a child who was forced to live on welfare after my parents divorced... if it wasn't for welfare and food stamps, there is no way we would have been able to eat lunch everyday. Luckily we qualified for the free hot lunch program, but the free breakfast wasn't in existence yet, so we were only assured of one healthy meal a day. And if it wasn't for federal grants, it would have been improbable that I would have graduated from college, which has allowed me to work for a university for the last 10+ years.
The failings of the poverty asssitance programs, which led to generations of people on the dole, and ultimately led to the creation of Welfare-to-Work programs, was really due to a lack of a comprehensive funding of other staples, like gas/transportation to work, adequate day care, rent, healthcare, in addition to food stamps, until a family is able to not only get back on their feet, but also maintain that newly attained economic level for a sustained period of time. And while the new Welfare-to-Work seems to be successful since it does incorporate these other amenities and even helps them find jobs, it still doesn't address the fundamental problem of maintaining sustainable work to make enough money for the family to survive; once the other amenities are removed (like day care when a child is sick or free transportation is removed) the welfare recipient usually "fails". Another problem that had not been addressed until recently, was the difficulty of getting fathers to routinely pay their child support (not in our case, thank God). The push to get fathers to pay their child support as a means to absorb some of the cost to the state has not begun until recently. Ironically, Gov Blagovich has been a leader in this, recognizing that getting the father to support his family is a benefit to the taxpayers as a whole.
just my two cents...

Can you say Communism?
A national security for that all are asked to server in that rival the US military. They already think that the military members are a bunch of uneducated rednecks that love guns and war. So now they will have a way to counter a rebellion from non conforming citizens. The Socialist will send all our troops out or any that are left anyway to some peaces keeping mission under the UN and this new Security force will be the new Social I mean National security force that will force summation on the rest of us. First they will ask for members as he has suggested, then with the lack of participation he will impose a draft that will mandate that all serve. This combined with the new bill that is being looked at in congress that will allow inspectors to inspect a family with young children to see if the home environment is ok for that children and will ether educate the parents on how to raise the child or remove the child and place them in a government education and care facility and you get a new generation of robotic idiots who cant think for them selves and will follow the government s agenda. On the radio the other day they were saying that the generation born after 1980 should be called generation DUM. They can follow every move of the friend on the internet but can't even tell you what the first amendment is and know little to nothing about economics. With this new generation that thinks Barrak Oboma is a god we are in a world of hurt. This also all ties in with the environmental movement that is abolishing the 5th amendment the right to own and protect private property. They are killing our economy by restricting energy in the name of the environment and want to tax the piss out of every one that WORKS for a living to care for the lazy. I say if you don't work you don't eat!!!
The Dems and some Reps are all after big government which our founding fathers fought against. We are losing our country and the media is covering up the entire thing. I say exercise the first amendment and let Washington know that we don't want Socialism in any form. Charity is for churches and nonprofit organizations not the government.

While as you say this "thing" Obama is thinking up is not a "national police force", as I recall from my various studies of history, the NSDAP and Hitler Youth started out as rather benign social service agencies, but turned out to be training grounds for the NAZI party. Obama is a bit too elitist and self indulgent for my taste. While McCain is far from my idea of the ideal candidate, Obama has all the hallmarks of a truly dangerous individual. He calls for "Change" but if he gets elected I fear that after he gets done raising taxes to pay for his dreams, "Change" is all we will have left. Therefore, if he gets elected, I suppose I will have to reduce my standard of living as I will quit my job and live on my pension for four years, rather than pay taxes to support his idiocy.

One of the things I remember from school when studying Communism and Socialism, was the different tactics of contolling the populace and keeping power. Controlling the media was on the top of the list.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080729/ap_on_re_us/church_shooting
(Emphasis is mine)
**Adkisson "stated that he had targeted the church because of its liberal teachings and his belief that all liberals should be killed because they were ruining the country, and that he felt that the Democrats had tied his country's hands in the war on terror and they had ruined every institution in America with the aid of the major media outlets," Investigator Steve Still wrote.**
**The Unitarian-Universalist church advocates for women's rights and GAY RIGHTS and has PROVIDED SANCTUARY FOR POLITICAL REFUGEES. It also has fed the homeless and FOUNDED A CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION, according to its Web site.**

Today the state of New Jersey Supreme Court has issued a legal mandate that will surely help in the formation of Mr. Obamas Civilian Natl. Security Force. The law now states any derogatory racial or religious remarks in the workplace can now be considered a criminal offense resulting in the accused being fired, fined, or depending on the degree of the offense being held criminally liable. "Thought Krime" is now here in America mandated by the State of New Jersey 8/1/08. I guess a number of comedians in Atlantic City Casinos will be put out of work as religion and race make up so many comic routines. Or maybe this will only apply to comics of the Caucasian race.
Be very careful now in how you express yourself in all emails and Internet communications. An ancient Chinese saying/curse has finally come true in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

These PC thought crimes and PC hate speech laws are already in place in the UK and others parts of the world including Australia, Canada and NZ plus New Jersey. This will be expanded if Obama wins. All these people care about is power and silencing you.
Obama's Civilian Police Force will be like those used by Chavez and Mugabe to keep the public "in line." These types of Civilian Security Forces have been used in Cuba, UUSR, East Germany, Romania, other communist countries and nazi Germany. People will be terrified about posting anything online and will be terrified but what they may have posted.
It will also be huge slush funds to win political races, influence politicians and defraud taxpayers.
By the way, where is the $100 million Obama and Ayers administered in that Annenberg project? Ayers said they made no real progres then shut it down but $100 million went up in smoke. Obama was the treasurer.
