Why Do We Call Them 'Democrats'?

We all knew it even though Democrat spokespersons denied it. Worried that the negative connotations would affect their electability and their eyes glued to the capricious winds of public opinion, they invented new words for the old ideology such as progressivism and communitarianism. Apparently, the camouflage is no longer needed. The masks are off. They now openly call for the nationalization of private business, the establishment of universal entitlements and increased taxation to pay for them. Why worry about socialist labels? The electorate is complacent, prosperity has numbed our senses and the left has worked diligently for many years to sap our national pride and deface our self-image.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Eight years into the twenty-first century, Mr. Thomas' prediction is coming perilously close to fruition; the presidential elections of 2008 may well validate his faith in "liberalism" and its Trojan horse delivery of Socialism. After decades of slow yet persistent desensitization to Socialism in our schools, in our media and in government policy, Americans are blind to its ramifications for our prosperity, our individual freedoms and our national identity. Political candidates and legislators espouse openly socialist policies without eliciting the slightest outrage or significant comment, so successfully have the philosophies of Marx and Lenin permeated the national psyche. 

House Democrats, loudly shifting blame from the consequences of their energy policies, threaten nationalization of American oil companies. Mimicking Marxist Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, their answer to the energy crisis is eliminating free markets.

"Should the people of the United States own refineries?  Maybe so.  Frankly, I think that's a good idea.  Then we could control the amount of refined product much more capably that gets out on the market..." Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) 18 June Press Conference with Democratic leadership.

Representative Hinchey is on the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee and the Natural Resources Committee, committees with enormous influence on energy matters. He went on as he stood next to House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL):

"So if there's any seriousness about what some of our Republican colleagues are saying here in the House and elsewhere about improving the number of refineries, then maybe they'd be willing to have these refineries owned publicly, owned by the people of the United States, so that the people of the United States can determine how much of the product is refined and put out on the market.

"To me, that sounds like a very good idea."

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) once considered one of congress's fringe leftists apparently let the Democrat party policy slip during show hearings with oil company executives earlier in the month:

"This liberal will be all about socializing, uh, uh . . . would be about . . . basically taking over and the government running all of your companies."

Anticipating the consequences of what they do for political expediency is not a skill the Democrats nurture. Their refusal to support the development of domestic oil reserves, for decades has left us beggars on the world market, susceptible to the whims of theocratic tyrants and Marxist thugs. The record is clear, Republicans voted to develop domestic resources, the Democrats voted against development, by wide margins. Democrat party leaders are now feverishly shifting blame, developing public distracters, claiming their remarks are taken out of context and, as always, counting on the fickle memory of the electorate to kill the issue.

Our Democrat-Socialists invariably support polices that end badly. Bio fuels have removed important food surpluses from markets, raising food prices worldwide. The energy and water required to produce it is far greater to an equal measure of gasoline. This is an example of the solution being worse than the problem. Their anti-Iraq war hysterics have failed; Iraqi democracy moves forward against all odds, a remarkable achievement. The accusations of administration malfeasance, in the war on terror, in diplomacy, in a dozen other areas are proving unsupportable.

Even global warming has turned up a hoax, at best a wild exaggeration more to do with ideology and money than science. Temperatures are dropping, CO2 does not seem to affect global weather and the sun is gone into a natural dormant phase, which means decades of cooler temperatures. Another inconvenient "truth" falls away. Yet new ones are always being born, America's Socialists are ever mutable, shifting and accommodating in the winds of political change. They are clever when inventing new causes and convincing the American people that their record is not their fault.

They never let themselves get pinned down; they never sit idle for the blame to settle.

Our Founding Fathers created a system that understood what best motivates its citizens: a desire to better their lives and the lives of their families. They developed a system that accepts the realties of the human condition, and allows for competing ambitions with checks and balances that are remarkably resilient. It is a system that cultivates enterprise and prosperity, and has been supremely successful. The Socialists want to change it. 

Socialism bleeds the vitality from a nation; it dilutes the national will, and lulls the citizenry into a stupor that makes it ill suited to survival. Existential threats are ignored as social programs and entitlements consume ever larger and larger portions of the national budget. Communism, Socialisms most virulent strain, has been so spectacular a failure it is hard to fathom how anyone could continue to be seduced by its false promises. Yet, we see Marxist autocrats such a Hugo Chavez and Daniel Ortega idolized with the same adolescent naiveté that made Pol Pot and Fidel Castro palatable to liberal elites in the West. As is always the case, when their inevitable depredations shock and embarrass their western apologists, they quickly disappear from our newspapers and television sets, filtered out by the ideology that erases unpleasant truths by pretending they are not there.

Our willingness to forgo easy comfort and short-term gain for a greater and more lasting prosperity has made us what we are. Most Americans still expect to work for what they have. We take pride in our labors. We expect our fellow citizens to do the same. We are generous with our charity precisely because it is voluntary. We bridle under oppressive government regulation. We know that utopias are a fairytale, and thankfully, for now, a significant number of us can still spot a charlatan.

The Socialist Party of America has arrived, wearing Democrat clothing. Socialist control of the presidency and congress would knock America to its knees as nothing has before. What was inconceivable five years ago becomes a frightening possibility with Obama, Pelosi, Boxer and Reid. The Democrats socialist vision will be a disaster.

If you think gas is expensive now, wait until the socialists in congress run the oil business.

It is telling that just the fact they have to lie and secretly be who they are shows their policies failures. Successful policies don't need the shadows, the lies, the secrecy. Liberalism, Socialism, whatever the minions that follow the left call themselves they are a frightening bunch of losers.

We're doomed. Aside from another civil war I don't know how we're going to undo what's been done to us, by those who took out blood-won liberties and turned them into a free-for-all, and the means to strangle a man with his own wages.

They'll project a Hollywood groovy-like hip and cool to attract the youth group who will roam the streets shouting 'we are the ones we've been waitng for'.

I read the words of an Obama supporter who said that the Jews owe Obama their vote because Jews stole all the diamonds and oil in Africa.

Of course, that's been scrubbed because everyone knows Obama is not a politican, he's a savior.

Why bother calling the socialists? Communists is more to the point.

This article is right on the mark. But, if the American population wants socialism by being voluntarily intellectually weak and voting for Democrats, it is free to do so - with its consequences. This is an advertising game and Conservatives aren't playing well. Conservatives ought not give up hope though.

Hows about we just start calling a spade a spade (and no, that isn't a racial slur, so don't even start). Instead of calling them Democrats, let's lust call 'em commies.

Now Obama has even changed the symbols of the Presidential Seal; replacing "Seal of the President of the United States" with his website. The Eagle that held the shield, now bears his "O" campaign logo with a rising sun, symbolizing "Hope Ahead". Yes, King Barack Hussein Obama is ready for his coronation.

Commie is a Commie, and a looser is a looser. In The movie Glengary Glenn Ross, 1992, we have a bunch of liberials in real life telling us how they think we aught to work and behave. Everything Blake says and does trys to tell us about the UGLY side of a market driven economy. I see it all the time at work. The first thing at a new work place, when is vacation? All the new employees ask about the benefits that go with the job. Money for nothing. The first hour on a new job and they are writing down for the boss what they want for a vacation schedule. How much money do you make? Whats for Lunch? Then they start talking about their kids. School for them. Their new cars. Everybody wants to be king, but nobody wants to work. I learned one thing working at the mill for US Steel, 3 months after retirement, your dead. Their are no retired communists, their all dead. There is no one around to pay for the communist retirement home. The population of Russia is shrinking. The work that goes into raising kids is just not worth it. But Blake is my personal favorite. No matter how you dress it up a looser is a looser. When you don't work your dead.

Worry not, children. We were in much more danger of becoming a socialist cesspool back in the thirties and forties. Back then, the Demoncrat's charade of being for the working man was more believable. They will continue to underestimate the average-American's intellect and resolve until the government is handed back to pragmatists/ conservatives a-la 1980. These events follow such an obvious cycle, I don't know why it isn't discussed more.

The forces of individualism vs. socialism have been at odds throughout recorded history. This is just part of that natural play of forces.

Free markets do more to foster the "social" well being than any other economic mechanism. Corruption introduced into free markets, usually via government or churches, has always resulted in an extreme distribution of wealth in the hands of a few. The few insist that they are doing it for the greater good. But even the few, no matter how benevolent they think they are, become corrupted and are eventually overthrown either by force or by election.

Because of technological advances in distribution of products and dissemination of information, the free market is much more resistent to such corruption. The common man with his common sense has a greater voice than ever before. The genuine intellectual giants of every era are bright enough to see this; the ability, value and worth of the common and honest man and woman. The pseudo intellectuals who populate the self proclaimed "intelligentsia" never do. They aren't really that bright, are in fact intellectually inferior to the common man, but sincerely believe the common man is as foolish as they are and must be protected from himself. All we are seeing is their need to perceive themselves as superior to the "common" man, and so they try to denigrate him socially and materially, to make him needy.

We are seeing that exact manifestation now in the energy markets, where most of the oil producting nations do have nationalized control of energy resources. So, of course it is unbalanced and the good, intelligent and decent citizens of the U.S. are suffering because of it.

Please read a book called "Heros of History" by Will and Ariel Durant. You will see that today's issues date back as far as recorded history.

That doesn't mean we can be complacent, but that we must once again defeat the aristocratic yearnings of the lazy and cowardly elements of society to whom we have granted too much influence. While we have been busy working and building a future worth inhabiting for our children, they have been busy trying to usurp the fruits of our labor because they cannot produce anything of worth to society.

Interviews with Ayn Rand and speeches by Ronald Reagan are popping up on the internet with large hit numbers. People are listening again and people are smart.

What really struck me is a speech on behalf of Barry Goldwater by Ronald Reagan in 1964. Mr. Goldwater lost that election for the simple reason that America was too propserous. We were willing to allow Johnson's "War on Poverty", and to finance it because we were so fat and happy. We were willing to share more of our abundance with the unfortunate.

It would be another 15 years before Mr. Reagan was elected to the presidency. In those 15 years, the destructive nature of socialism, the ever increasing poverty, made it necessary. Well, right now, we are suffering economically because of socialism. I think that men and women of genuine good will will rise to the occasion.

Part of that effort is this article and the many like it. Please keep beating the drum for real progress. It is so preferable to the repressive and regressive socialist impulses of the intellectually, spiritually and morally anemic intelligentsia...who, when all is said and done, really just want the rest of us to finance their debauchery.

Socialism is the cancer spreading across our great country. Individualism and rugged freedoms are "quaint terms" that BO and his minions think are obsolete. What I find interesting is every time McCain makes a great point and hits the mark on how weak Democrats are on national security BO comes back with "I'm not going to discuss it". What is the central, though not directly stated, theme here? The real war is in the control of the public debate, and until we understand that and ACT to remedy that, we will continue to read whinging, hand-wringing articles like this one. I don't really mean to criticise the author because he has done a good job here of detailing the perfidied of the Leftists.
I think one of the unstated assumptions in this article - and so may like it - is that the public, once presented with the truth, will behave in a rational way that serves their own self-interests. Once the Leftists have indoctrinated the population with their false standards of forced altruism and "fairness", however, that is no longer true. Only when the realities of life eventually hit home somewhere down the road (and it may take decades to fully beggar the country) will the general public understand the true evil of those who espouse the Leftist mantra.

Conservatives seek to participate in the public debate and expect their political enemies to do the same. The Leftsist seek to CONTROL the public debate and expect their political enemies to do the same. Until we understand this and act accordingly this country will continue to slide ever further Leftward.

Liken the US public sector to a big wagon. In the past, few were riding and many were pulling. The wagon is now filling rapidly and has fewer to pull it. It becomes more and more tempting to give up your burden and hop aboard the wagon. Those riding at the front of the wagon (politicians) beckon us to come aboard and enjoy the easy ride. It may not be long before there is no one left to pull.

These goals were set many decades ago, and what is so scary is that most if not all have been achieved.

Glad the last statement is in there. I had mentioned this a couple weeks back with friends: once "nationalism" takes effect and the comrades notice how much money oil brings in, the price of crude will never go down, and national budgets will grow even more bloated. No different than welfare keeps costs of nearly everything artificially inflated, health care, et al.

Everyone should read Jonah Goldberg's newish book entitiled "Liberal Fascism". It is as well laid out as any critique of Western Hemisphere Socialism could be. As he points out, the socialists ran for the presidency in as far back as 1912 under the banner of the Progressive Party.

Their descendents and intellectual heirs continue apace. They seem a contagion that we will never be rid of.

Like one reader said, if they get control they will quickly enact laws to quash the opposition.

First and foremost among that will be to chase down former administration officials and try them for their "crimes". Given the current social situation in this country, and the totally sympathetic media, I'd say they'll probably get away with jailing them all. If they can't prosecute or convict them based on the Iraq war, they'll use the various agencies, IRS, FBI, etc, to investigate them for anything and everything they can. After they've whipped their supporters into a frenzy for finally punishing that "Evil" Bush administration, next other political opponents will follow. This will include the enactment of the "Fairness" doctrine, which will be convenient for putting all of those pesky talk show hosts away.

Next they will begin systematically disarming the people. This will start with shutting dealers down through witch hunts. Then taxes on guns and ammunition, just like they're proposing in California now. Then safety requirements that will render all guns without their designated safety features illegal, just like they're doing in California. In fact, look to California to see their likely play book on that issue. California is doing a truly wonderful job disarming the people.

Then they will destroy the economy. Production jobs will continue to go overseas, probably at a faster rate with BO in office. Entire industries will likely pick up and go with new tax policies enacted to ensure a "More equitable wealth redistribution". The Fed Reserve is now printing money which is feeding into inflation. The Gov't already has a stranglehold on our energy market (which is the main reason our gas prices are so high right now) and congress has now openly called for socializing it. These people can't even manage their own Senatorial resturaunt (they're privatizing it!), yet they want to run the oil industry? Someone show me how that makes sense. With over 5 million acres of corn field under water right now and a requirement to produce ethanol, corn has jumped from $2/bushel to over $8 in the last month or two. We are now importing wheat, not good. Much of our agricultural crisis comes from government regulation. If BO gets into office, you can be sure this will become much worse.

Destroying the economy will likely cause mass civil disturbance. With unemployment and food shortages, it will not be a pretty picture. All of this will give the Socialists in power the perfect excuse to hammer down on rule.

Then with our country in a totally weakened state, the rising powers such as China (refer to Bill Gertz, "The China Threat") and Russia (They've restarted the cold war practice of flying their strategic Bombers around the US again, No Comrade! Don't worry, we are just trying to get flight hours up, that is all Comrade!) will be free to roam about with no checks, and might even poise for supremacy. Keep in mind these countries have fundamentally changed their militaries and are rearming and re-equiping them at a phenomenal rate (despite the lack of true threats). Both have watched our use of tactics and technology very closely and have reformed their militaries in response. Both, in recent years have conducted major excercise, both alone and together, where major US military formations were named as Opposing Force during these exercises. Addtionally, they have excluded US observers from these exercises. China has stolen much information from us and western analysts have finally thrown their arms up, admitting that China may be decades ahead of where we thought they were militarily.

Any future confrontation would likely go nuclear though, because with the huge cut backs Obama has been proposing for the military and the fact that most of our land forces will likely be garrisoning our cities and possibly fighting an insurgency (I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2nd Civil War), going nuclear will be about the only option to try and discourage foreign aggression (if we still have nukes). If we don't have any nukes, that means we'll more likely see them used on us. I no longer refer to these people as Democrats or Liberals, I now just call it for what I see them, Communists, Socialists, Traitors, Subversives. Even that doesn't go very far to people who ignorrantly wear "Che" T-shirts.

Mccain is only slightly better. He is against the so-called "obsene" profits of Oil Companies, suggesting he has no idea about a free market. He has supported, voted for, gun-control. Legislation bearing his own name has encroached upon the first amendment. He has expressed support for climate control legislation. He conveniently avoided standing on the off-shore drilling issue by pawning it off to the States as a "State's Rights" issue. While this is true, he said that because he wanted to use the "forgainst it" election year policy rule just like Obama and Clinton. Basically, what I'm saying, is socially, he's almost BO. I do believe he'll keep the military strong, so that's good, I guess. I can tell my kids about our wonderful military as we walk back from the soup kitchen line back to our tin shanty.

The only difference I see between Mccain and Obama is intent. I don't believe Mccain would systematically destroy this country, he would do it by accident. On the other hand, I know Obama and his wife, are waiting, wringing their hands, to get a hold of this country. Our fore-fathers said, "The price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance." We have not been vigilant, so we will pay the price. God, I hope I'm wrong!

No-Fault divorce laws and sexual promiscuity have already destroyed the American family. Unless we re-estabillish the patriarchy , abolish the NEA, abolish the FCC, insist on moral behavior, and are willing to let California and the Northeast for separate countries, America will be completely communist. I have read the article an comments on this blog. Especially those of Gail S interest me. It is not that we Conservatives have not also bear some blame. While free trade was a noble idea, it was corrupted in the practice. The goal should never have been free trade, the goal should have been fair trade. Absconding with our responsibility to make sure it was equitable lead to a disparity of wealth. This disparity bred contempt which the Democrats laid on the door-step of Republicans, because a Republican was president.

But, where is the real manipulation? Hedge Fund dealers like Soros make their money through unrest. The safest and surest unrest is achieved by creating class warfare and that has been the goal and I fear the success of the Left. Conservatives have become too doctrinal for the mainstream (other than for the most part, John McCain.) But where is the great Conservative movement when McCain needs their support. Is the alternative more palatable? I have heard Conservative say this election cycle is over - we need to come back in four years after the inexperienced Obama does his damage.

For me, it is inconceivable to wait for another day to try to put Humpty Dumpty together again. McCain needs your support now, America needs your support now.

Someone needs to give John McCain a good shake and explain to him he is not in a fair fight and it is not even Obama he is fighting; it is Soros and the far left that will be the undoing of this country.

How have we arrived at this defining point in the history of our once great nation? Folks, we got here because the GOP, in the person of the elected officials, party activists, and bureaucrats are cowards. Whoa, cowards? Yes, cowards, and they have been since at least Dec. 8, 1941. From the time of FDR's first assuming office, until the Pearl Harbor attack, the GOP in congress attempted to fight where they could with their severe minority status. After Pearl Harbor, they became the "go along to get along" party.

Oh, the GOP occupied the White House off and on, but that was all. Besides, Ike was not a Republican until the day that he filed to run for President. Until then, he was being courted to run by BOTH parties, and was registered independent. Nobody knew his politics. He wasn't sure of his politics himself. Nixon was in very substantial agreement with JFK on domestic issues. Their main differences were in the geo-political sphere. Besides, Nixon was paranoid and had a huge inferiority complex. Then there was George Bush, the elder. No right winger he. He was, and is, a New England, old money, patrician who barely tolerates Conservatives. The absolutely biggest mistake that Reagan made was to adopt G. H. W. Bush as his Veep. Then there is the current Bush. When you qualify the term Conservative by inserting "compassionate", you are telling me that you are not a conservative, but don't want to admit it.

What was the charge made by Newt Gingrich when he unseated George Michael as Minority Leader in the House? It was that Michael was a "go along to get along" Minority Leader that simply agreed with the Dems, since they were in the majority. The Contract With America was about standing up and fighting. But it served it's purpose and was over in short order. Of course the Dems suspected that the GOP was a paper tiger, and they launched their campaign to regain their status. They attacked Newt relentlessly, and they finally got his scalp to hang on their belts. Next they decided that Livingston was too aggressive, so they iniated their campaign against him. It took no time at all for the GOP to throw him under the bus, and the Dems had their next scalp. You can go on from there by yourself. Every time the GOP got an even partially effective leader, the Dems attacked, the GOP caved in, and the scalp was added in the DNC trophy room. Oh, and I am not talking just about the House. I include the Senate, the White House (remember the campaign to bring a "new tone" to Washington), the RNC, and much of the Republican punditry and activists.

The Social Security program was, and is, Socialism. Now given the situation at the time, you were not going to stop it's enactment, and by itself, in it's initial form, I could argue that it was a good thing. Unfortunately, it has proven to be the camel's nose that first succeeded in worming it's way into the tent. Virtually the entire FDR program to pull America out of the Depression was pure Socialism. Can you say TVA? Can you say NRA? And none of it worked. What pulled the country out of the Depression was when our industrial base was ramped up to provide the arms and equipment to fight the AXIS in WWII, and then our putting millions of men under arms when we entered the war. The point is that the GOP should have been consistently and repeatedly identifying all of that as Socialism from the very start. The GOP should have been screaming "SOCIALISM" from the moment that LBJ introduced his anti-poverty programs. We can all tick off the programs that are pure Socialism that have been implemented under both Dem and Rep administrations and Congressional majorities. Every time one was first introduced, the GOP should have started screaming "SOCIALISM", and kept it up until it was defeated. If it passed into law, the GOP ought to identify it as Socialist every time it is brought up, regardless of context.

Then there are the politicians themselves. Sure, we know about Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson-Lee, et al., but what of Nancy Pelosi? Why, pray tell, hasn't the GOP consistently identified her as a Socialist from the start? She is, you know. Why are Kerry, Kennedy, Leahey, Schumer, Clinton, Durbin, Obama and on and on not constantly referred to as Socialists? They are, you know. Why has the GOP allowed the Dem politicians and media to pre-empt the use of the perfectly correct word for the political Left today? Why is it that terms like "Socialist" are off limits for the Right to use, but the Left can use any of the most vile terms to castigate the Right with impunity? Because the GOP acquiesces in the language stipulations proffered by the Left.

Fellow trogladytes, when you allow the opposition to determine the permissable language to be used, you have lost the battle before it even begins. John McCain is a coward. He is constantly blasting us on the right for being too mean to the Dems. He has told us that we can't use Obama's middle name. He has told the NC GOP that they can't run ads that reflect negatively on Obama. He has chastised the Swift Boat Vets for going after a Vietnam traitor named John Kerry. He succeeded in finding a way to defeat a GOP attempt to put an end to Dem blocking of judicial nominations. He has joined his Dem friends in castigating those of us that demand that our borders be enforced. His puppy dog, Lindsey Graham, has said that the "noisey" conservatives need to "sit down and shut up." Now don't misunderstand, I am not singling out only John McCain. I could go on and on citing examples of GOP politicians and pundits, like Brit Hume and Fred Barnes, but you know them as well as I do. Oh, and don't even get me started on George Bush and his "new tone in Washington" and his "rope-a-dope" stategy against the Dem personal and vicious attacks against him and his administration. They usually argue that harsh language will not persuade anyone. It will not win any hearts and minds. Oh, really! The Dems seem to be doing fairly well using whatever terms they wish against the political right, regardless of how vile they may be, or how untrue they may be. It has been said that you can't go wrong underestimating the American public. It has also be shown that, when you do not fight back vigorously, and with all weapons at your disposal, the spectators in the public tend to assume that your opponents must be right. Remember that a large portion of the public is not paying really close attention 100% of the time. They only catch the snippets and sound bites that rise above the level of the general, ongoing cacaphony.

As the general election begins to sprawl its way through history, it is obvious the race is between two political blocs representing two distinct philosophies: the Social-Marxist wing of the Democrat Party and the moderate -liberal wing of the Republican Party. The Socialist-Marxist wing promotes nationalizing health care (Clinton-Obama) and oil (Maxine Waters) industries. This wing of the party is funded primarily by George Zoros, a committed Socialist-Marxist and the "Goldfinger" of extremist politics. Democrats wanted to make Iraq the issue of the campaign. Since the demonstrated success of the surge, the Democrats have turned to the economy. However, escalating oil and gas prices have taken the wind out of their sails.

Democrats banned off-shore drilling thirty years ago and refuse to allow any drilling in Anwar. As a result, American oil companies have neither explored or drilled domestically nor built any new refineries in the last thirty years. As long as prices were lower the Democrats escaped major criticism. The "perfect storm" arrived as a confluence of escalating oil and gas prices, and the Democrat move to shift food resources, e.g., corn, into alternative energy. This shift of food resources into alternative energy turned into a fiasco: the price per bushel of corn increased by 400% over two years; the decreased corn, wheat, etc., translated into higher food costs. Coupled with increasing gas and oil prices, plus the increasing subsidy of ethanol, the Democrats have created a firestorm that could cost them the election

The Republicans have an opportunity to claim national security as the prime campaign issue. National security not only includes the war on terror but also energy and food prices. The last Democrat to be strong on national security was John Kennedy. The question for John McCain, the presumptive Republican candidate, is how he uses the topic of national security (to include energy and food prices) and who he picks as his Vice-Presidential candidate.

I feel as if five areas of our culture has been marred by socialism and/or lennin's view of socialism. These segments of our culture are:

and Hollywood

Over the past fifty years these parts of our culture have slipped into the quicksand of socialism (in my view). Hollywood has gone down hill fast; and Hollywood is the biggest propaganda machine on the planet. Our media influences the mind of the sheople. If it wasn't for talk radio and FNC, the right would have no voice. Our schools systems are full of progressive thinking people who brainwash our children into believing socialism is a good thing. Judges on the bench create havoc and the people say the systems is broken and we need to change it. The system is not broke, it is the people from within the system that are broke. We fix this problem by removing those who wish to legislate from the bench. And last but not least the demoratic party is the socialist party and a lot of the people who vote demorat have no idea what they are voting for. I also believe that there are individuals in other parties who get bought by interest groups. We call them RINOs and they are no better then a demorat.

That is my assessment of the situation. And may I add that I believe we have the best system in the world, but we have the worst people running it. The thing that needs changed is to remove these thugs from power.

As I posted on another thread, one of the more disturbing things I've read of late is Rasmussen's poll showing only 47% of those polled opposing nationalization of the oil industry. That's 47%, folks (down to 32% among Democrats). Clearly we have our work cut out for us.

I wonder if Hinchey and the rest, seeing the voters agreeing with the Repubs about off-shore drilling, are merely bating them hoping to scare them off this talk of increasing fossil fuel production. As in, you guys want to talk about off-shore drilling? Well, we're gonna make you talk about nationalizing it then. I say bring it on. By all means, let's get that debate going. Good old Ayn Rand, relevant again. Parenthetically, I hear Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have obtained the rights to "Atlas Shrugged" and intend to produce a film treatment. Don't scream--they're actually fans, not only of Rand but of the philosophy. Who would've guessed.

We on the right lack a rallying figure and suffer from a terrible dearth of leadership. My eye has been on Louisiana for some time now and I believe Gov. Bobby Jindal may be the leader we need. Part of me wants him to stay right where he is and continue to amass a (hopefully) spectacular record of conservative achievements, but part of me desperately wants him on the national scene now. I'd be interested in knowing what others think.

As for the Great Global Warming Hoax, fortunately current conditions require a shelving of that nonsense (Dems couldn't drop Lieberman-Warner fast enough). I predict "Inconvenient Truth" will be the "Reefer Madness" of its time.

Here is an example of the hypocrisy of the political class we have in office, not to mention the diabolical control aspects of the plan. Sen. Dodd is currently chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and has received a sweetheart loan on real property he owns from CountryWide, one of the major players in the SubPrime lending scandal. He has no problem with spying on all financial transactions of American Citizens but opposes listening in on telephone conversations from foreign terrorists to accomplices in the US. And, while the language appears to say ''credit card'', one wonders how long it would take to include check card/debit cards that are involved in most transactions and can also be used for on-line purchases, etc. In other words, how long until virtually every transaction by every citizen (or resident) of the nation could theoretically be tracked, monitored, overseen, taxed, and regulated by the agents of our new masters? Couple that with the current push to reinstitute the so-called fairness doctrine designed to stifle decent and rapidly increasing fuel prices which will eventually regulate you to your local area, restrict your free movement and confine any protest you may want to make, and you have perfect control over the population; then you Nationalize Private Enterprise (Big Oil to begin with) to control the economy as several Democrats have proposed and we can change the name of the country to the United Soviet Socialist Republic of America. This is the future we face under a President Obama and a Congress dominated by the Democrats.

Once again I can see the wisdom of Tomas Jefferson; "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Democrats, RINO and Republican. I think there are about 8 Republicans left in Congress. Our President is not a Republican in the true sense of the party.

Once again, you place things totally out of context. You can thank the democratic party for squandering our $350 billion (and thanks for breaking that down by the day for me, I wasn't sure about that). They authorized Bush to go to war. Despite having a majority, they failed to "bring the troops home" by cutting funding like they kept promising. I'm not a huge fan of Bush, but, he is the first president since the liberal beloved FDR to get congress to authorize a declaration of war. The false pretenses, if they were true, are mute. Congress had the same access to intel before the war, and if you want to talk about presidents taking us to war under false pretenses, get a history book. President Wilson sent Merchant Marine Vessels, armed with Navy cannons and Navy crewmen (in gross violation of national and international laws and regs) into hostile waters knowing there was high likelihood of them being targeted by German Subs. In fact, 4 were sunk when Wilson finally went to congress. You want to talk about a war of no signifigance to us? We could have let the Europeans bash themselves to death without ever sacraficing a man. Let's fast forward to WWII, when Roosevelt cut off talks with the moderate Japanese in the Gov't. When he snubbed them and cut off imports to their country, the moderates were thrown out and replaced with Tojo. Let's talk about how the US Navy was set up around the Pacific in order to provoke a confrontation with the Japanese. The "Police Action" in Korea? No congressional approval? United Nations approval?!!! Are you flippin kidding me?!!! Thank you Truman. Vietnam? Thank you JFK for carrying on the Truman doctrine and sending all of those advisors over there to entangle us. Thank you LBJ for escalating that war and then tying the hands of the military. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe all of those guys were Democrats. Now I'm not saying I am against these wars, I'm just trying to illustrate that Bush, if he did, is not the first president to set us up for war. But here is the main point I want to stress to Alan and his fellows. The one thing I have seen in the Democratic party time and again is their constant desire to take things from good working people who are often doing their best to live their lives privately and raise a family. They always want more taxes, they always want to take away our guns, they want to restrict our freedom of speech when it doesn't say what they want it to say. They want to impose their way of living on the rest of us, who, for the most part, just want to live our lives AND NOT HAVE TO PAY $10 A GALLON GAS WHEN WE DON'T HAVE TO!!!!! What's even worse is they want to take our money and sink it into programs known for absolute failure. Their stated logic being, "Well, it didn't work because, there wasn't enough funding" or, "Because it wasn't done correctly the first time." Yes, this war has been costly, but at least we're seeing positive results (and yes, I have seen them first hand, so don't try to come back with some news clip about the war failing). Now, the Republicans on the other hand, before they became appeasers, generally wanted to leave us working people alone. They didn't want to take our money, they didn't want to take our guns, they don't want to impose their personal standards of life on anyone. Here's a tip for future liberals who want to post on this site. The next time you get your DNC newsletter and you see a talking point that you're just dying to throw in our faces, please, at least do a google search, a focus group, or something and get some education on that. One consistent thing I have seen on this site, is this; while I don't agree always with my conservative peers (imagine that, we're not all in "lock step"), I have often found that they articulate their points in a compelling manner. Most of the libs that show up often have pre-recorded DNC talking point that they often cannot articulate because they have no in depth knowledge on the matter (Jeffry!!! Where you at man?!!). To future lib posters I say this, this is a website of people who think, hence the name. If you want to convince us of the error of our ways, you must articulate your arguments with facts, not your facts, but real facts. This will be difficult for you because in many cases you will have to convince many of us to ignore our senses in the things we have seen, heard, smelled tasted, touched and so on. Don't give up though, step into the arena of ideas. You see unlike the rest of your liberal colleagues, we welcome lively debate. We won't try and force you into a schizo "fairness Doctrine" or anything like that.

There is one more point I would like to make, and this goes back to Hyde. People expressing fear does not mean they've given up. Many of us fear the direction which this country is headed. Socialism is already on the march. My wife, who happens to be from the former Yugoslavia and is now a new US citizen, brought it to my attention a couple of years ago.

1) The takeover in the public school system. They now teach that children should be a member of the group, a part of the whole, if the child shows any individualism they are branded problematic (ADD, ADHD, etc...) and are placed on medication most of the time so they become easier to mold and made to comply. Children are taught multi-culturalism, how to be politically correct and to watch what they say so other peoples feelings are hurt. Meanwhile, what the hell happened to reading, writing and arithmetic. My wife taught one year in the local elementary school where we live, she was appalled and the lack of discipline and the high level of ignorance about many things that kids have no idea about. In one class more than half of the kids thought we fought Iraq or Vietnam or even Britain in WWII, now that's pathetic.

2) The introduction of the nanny-state. Now the govt can pretty much tell parents what they can and cannot do with their kids, what they can and cannot say and if those parents don't listen they take the children, place them in foster care under the guise of child abuse or some other made up BS word.

3) WELFARE, redistribution of income, from those who work to those who don't work. Granted there are instances where a person may have worked their entire life only to be fired from their job, in cases such as this I have no problem helping such a person to keep their home, BUT I have no respect for those who take advantage of the welfare system and make it a lifestyle choice, basically I have no love loss for those who parasite off of hardworking members of society. There are other minor examples I could go into, but it would take me all day and night to go through them, the examples I have mentioned are the most prevelant and should be so obvious to most Americans that they would vote every one of the DemoSocialists out of office, but alas the country's intellect continues to decline day after day. Maybe Im just too cynical after REALLY SEEING what's taking place under our very noses.

Obviously nobody here remembers the actual plot in Star Wars, the Democratic government gave up their freedoms little by little. When the time was right, the person that orchestrated the whole thing took over everything in one fell swoop, and freedom died to "thunderous applause".
The point of this? I really think that a lot of people on both sides of this issue better take more than a few steps back to see the actual size of the truck that is about to run you down. High fuel prices because of government controls should be as clear as crystal, but all seem so blind, or that gullible.

The simple truth is that if you try to deploy soldiers, you rapidly find that you have a very limited supply, and can't even seal up the major cities with the few you have. Plus, the public would never stand for it.
Whats the next best thing? They squeeze the fuel supply so hard that prices go through the roof for everything and the average Joe cannot go out for a dinner much less go on vacation. The first industry to fall? Tourism. Next? Any luxuries, like TV and boats and such. No more out of the house entertainment, either. This method makes it look like you are the one that chose to stay home, not Johnny Law ordering you to stay in your home. Look at the traffic reports from all of the major cities. Traffic jams aren't near as bad as they were last year. Why? people are staying home, or using public transport of some sort, which eats more time than a car, and by default, steals some of your freedom.
Watch. Soon you will spend all, of your normally disposable income on food and other consumables.

Well, if people can't afford to buy anything besides oil and food, whats he going to do next? Throw a windfall tax on all of the food purveyors?

Wow! I had totally forgot the actual, real, plot to Star Wars! No wonder I didn't realize the Democratic Party was behind the war in Iraq all this time! What a fool I've been to think GW had something to do with it!

Of course, we have to be careful. Hollywood is a notorious nest of COMMIES! The Star Wars plot might actually be a COMMIE PLOT!

OK, we've established that the country is going to hell in a handbasket; we are in imminent danger of having the commies running the country; the Republican leadership is comprised of spineless idiots and commie collaborators and the rag-hats are just itching to shove a nuke down our throats! In short, our country and our way of life are both in mortal danger!

So what do we do about it? Blogging is fine and helps get the word out, but it doesn't really change anything. We have a very small voice in the very large marketplace of public opinion; we are constantly drowned-out by the commie supporting MSM and Hollywood.

So what DO we do? The founding fathers envisioned just this situation and provided a method for us to remedy it; if we have the courage and conviction to carry it out.

My fellow Americans, it is time to take up arms against the oppressors and start the new revolution! Who among you is willing to risk all and fire the first shot? Who is willing to lead us back to our heritage? Who is willing to join together with me and all the other true patriots to rid ourselves of these monsters who've coopted our nation? Is there anyone out there with the guts to actually take your second amendment rights in hand and act against the enemy?

MURDERER you say! ASSASSIN you cry! LUNATIC you pronounce! Look to your history; it was just such murderers, assassins and lunatics who founded this country. They knew the risks they took. You don't think the English papers proclaimed them patriots and freedom fighters, do you? Not hardly!

You will accuse me of being a dangerous mental case. You will accuse me of needing therapy, or a cell! You should refer to the writings of our founding fathers and compare what I've said to theirs; mine are mild in comparison. However, the sentiment is the same. One man alone will change nothing; one million men and women nationwide can change the course of this country for the good! But we must act together with a unified voice and a unity of purpose. We must truly believe there is a real and present danger to ourselves and our families if we are going to see this through!

If we American Patriots are not willing to risk our lives, our fortunes, our families and our reputations for what we believe in, then we should settle in and get comfortable with having the government control every facet of our lives. It won't be so bad; people have survived under dictatorships thruout history. They laughed, loved, raised families and even prospered in some cases. All we have to do is be frogs, getting used to warm water! Pretty soon it'll be too late; by then it won't matter anyway. We act soon or forget it! We cannot reverse the tide with words; only actions will make the difference!

We call them "Democrats" only reflexively, and because that's what we were indoctrinated by the Socialists who taught us, from Kindergarten through College.

I understand peoples' attitudes are cyclical and ever changing. However, when I see how people in New York and California elect socialist/Marxists fools like Maurice Hinchey and Maxine Walters - and keep re-electing them; when I see a total hypocrite fool such as Nancy Pelosi continuously re-elected, it causes me to think that maybe the war is lost.

Who would've thought we'd be left with an intellectual hollow shell such as John McCain as our nominee? "Smart" people voted for McCain? I don't think so. And I have no faith in the American people. We've grown way too soft, too spoiled, and too entitled to expect anything other than a government willing to handout everything to everyone. There are only so many producers; the vast majority of Americans have become takers and dependent on government.

Faux Patriots:

I don't care whether you are red, pink, brown, yellow, black, green, male, female, cyborg, or some combination thereof. What I care about are the freedom and dignity of each to make their own "fashion statements" within a system of civilization that is relatively stable, sustainable, and surpassable.

Such a civilization is possible in some nations and cultures, such as in Western Civilization. During this time of upheaval and intolerance of individual freedom and dignity in much of the world, now is not a good time for free nations to be letting down their guard, with respect to borders, global co-dependency, or independent access to energy sources.

For the past 30 years, American politicians and legislators have been AWOL about defending American borders and fuel independence. Yet, they get all indignant lest anyone dare to question their patriotism.

Well, I dare! I dare to say that those we have entrusted with power to lead us have behaved stupidly, incompetently, selfishly, short-sightedly, and unpatriotically! How any so-called leader or politician, whether Republican Blue-Blood Snot or Democrat Marxist Double-Talker, could defend our policy failures with respect to borders and energy and then dare anyone to question their patriotism is the height of un-patriotism!

These people need to be washed away with a fire hose!

I'm all for calling a spade a spade (i.e. calling a liberal a socialist or commie) even in public. But in our current PC climate most people would immediately dismiss you as a wacko. See how they've indoctrinated everyone already?
